The bad news: it can’t always be sunny. But it’s a great excuse to pile on more, more, more. We’re talking knits, coats, jackets, tailoring and, of course, doubled-up accessories. Here’s how we’ll be doing it.

The pattern clash
Take your cues from Calvin Klein, and combine checks, stripes and graphic intarsias.
Above: coat from Vietti and sweater from Browns, both by Calvin Klein 205W39NYC; trousers by Lanvin, and scarf by Stone Island. Top: as before, and balaclava by Calvin Klein 205W39NYC from Browns.
The XXL coat
Your 2018 coat checklist: strong shoulders, big lapels, double-breasted. If in doubt, look to Y/Project and Balenciaga.
Update your notes. If last winter was all about the statement sweatshirt, this year the focus has moved to the high-impact knit.
Above: coat from Vietti and trousers from Tiziana Fausti, both by Calvin Klein 205W39NYC; cardigan (just seen) by Raf Simons from Browns, knit vest by Marni from Menage, scarf by Off-White from Browns, and sweater (worn around shoulders) by Maison Margiela from Vitkac.
Chestnut brown, burnt orange, burgundy, mustard. Think Roger Moore by way of Jarvis Cocker.
Above: coat by Prada from Browns, jacket (worn underneath) from Bottega Venetta , sweater by Off-White from Giulio, trousers from Il Duomo and scarf, both by Missoni , and sneakers by Lanvin from Il Faro.
We’re talking Prince-of-Wales check, herringbone, tweeds, tartans and argyles. Got all that?
Above: coat by OAMC from Tom Greyhound, sweater by Salvatore Ferragamo from Base Blu, stripe and sweater-inspired scarves (coming soon), both by Raf Simons from Browns; and bag by Maison Margiela from Nugnes 1920.
