The Ultimate Air Jordan 1 Sizing and Fit Guide

The Air Jordan 1, the OG ‘hype’ sneaker, is back to reclaim its rightful place on the sneakerverse throne. And with the new reign, comes a multitude of questions.

How does an Air Jordan 1 fit? Have they always fit the same? Is the sizing of an Air Jordan 1 true to size? Are Jordans comfortable? How do Air Jordan 1s fit on wider feet?

Here to answer all of these questions (and more) is our assembly of Jordan-obsessed sneakerheads. But for those looking for a super-quick answer on the fit of the Air Jordan 1 ― most-likely reading this in a state of pre-cop panic ― the Air Jordan 1 fits true to size.

“The Air Jordan 1 is classic. It was the coolest silhouette a couple of decades ago and it’s just as cool today. It’s the most comfortable high-top sneaker I own and I love the fit of them, even though my feet are relatively wide (you can’t forget that I’m an old guy).

The whole sneaker is soft and well-padded which makes it a perfect sneaker to wear all day. They hug my feet without being too snug. I love the Off-White Jordan 1s especially as the insoles have tiny pyramid-shaped extras on them which feel great on foot.”

For me, the Air Jordan 1s fit true to size. I could go half a size up for a more relaxed fit but I prefer a slightly tighter fit and I like to lace them all the way up to the second-to-last hole. Some suede Jordan 1s may fit a little different, but only slightly.”

“Jordan 1s are my favourite sneakers - they’re easily the most versatile, wearable and surprisingly comfortable shoes I own. They’re a classic silhouette and an easy choice to complete any outfit. I was lucky enough to cop my first pair of OG Jordan 1s back in 2013 - the classic Bred colourway which I still wear to this day.

The older 1’s have more of a snug fit in contrast to recent releases which fit more true to size. You can also get away with going a half size up with the AJ 1s for comfort due to the narrow fit, especially if you have wide feet. I personally stay true to size as, in my opinion, the crease on the toe box looks better and more natural where my toes fold while walking, helping to keep the shape of the shoe.”

“The Air Jordan 1 has always been one of my favourite sneaker silhouettes. It’s a sneaker of simplicity and precision, and I love the intricate details found in each release.

The best way to approach sizing for the Air Jordan 1 is to opt for your regular size. They’re one of the few sneakers that are consistent in their fit; the sizing remains the same with each new drop. I love this as it means I can avoid any unpleasant surprises when ordering a new pair.

The upper is made of durable leather with perforations located at the front of the sneaker which improves ventilation and lets the foot breathe. There’s a cushioning pad placed under the heel inside the shoe that helps with shock resistance. Even though I’ve got wide feet, J’s never fail to feel comfortable. As soon as you take them out of the box, they’re ready to go.”

“For me, the Air Jordan 1 is a very comfortable shoe when it comes to everyday wear. Fit-wise, they’re amazing as I never have to worry about going half-a-size up or down. They fit around my foot perfectly and it means I hardly have to loosen my laces.

It’s sometimes difficult to put into words why you love wearing a sneaker like this because it’s not just one thing that makes you want a pair, it’s everything about it. Obviously, the Air Jordan 1 is an iconic shoe, it’s aesthetically beautiful from every angle and the number of colourways available out there means there’s something for everyone's individual taste.”

“I love the Jordan 1 silhouette because they look sleek on my feet, they’re a classic, timeless design and they’re easy to dress up or down. They’re the perfect sneaker for everyday use as they’re comfortable and can be tightened and loosened easily.

The Air Jordan 1s fit true to size. However, the sneaker is initially snug as the leather upper needs to be broken into. As far as I know, the sizing of the Air Jordan 1 has always stayed the same (and I have worn them since I was a kid). Some may fit slightly bigger if they’re not made from leather. For example, the Flyknit Air Jordan 1s fit me half a size bigger.”
