We are on a mission to become the global platform for good in luxury fashion – empowering everyone we work with to think, act and choose positively. We call it Positively Farfetch, and Climate Conscious Delivery is a core part of that.
What are carbon emissions and why do we need to reduce them?
Carbon emissions are the world’s biggest contributor to global warming, and it’s our responsibility to minimise our impact as much, and as soon, as possible. At Farfetch, we’re reducing our emissions through more efficient packaging, by moving to renewable energy in our offices, and shipping more pieces in bulk via our fulfillment network. We’ve signed the United Nations Fashion Charter for Climate Change and are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions globally.
As a platform, our largest impact lies within our logistics network. Offsetting is the most economically efficient way for us to reduce our environmental impact immediately and that’s why, from 1 April 2020, we’re investing in independently certified and verified environmental projects to balance out the carbon impact of every single delivery and return. The projects are verified to Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry or the Verified Carbon Standard.
What is carbon offsetting?
Carbon offsetting means investing in projects that provide ‘carbon credits’, these are equivalent to carbon emissions in tonnes. One carbon credit equates to one tonne of carbon that has not been emitted.
How do we calculate how much carbon to offset?
We work with EcoAct, a leading sustainability consultancy, to measure and calculate our carbon footprint in line with the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas protocol.
