The Hot List: October

It’s only October but a big frieze is coming…Frieze London that is, internationally renowned art fair and one of our favourite events on the cultural calendar. In celebration, we’ve made it the inspiration for this month’s hotlist - so whether you’re headed there or just admiring from afar, read on and enjoy our artistic recommendations.

Listen to:

Your favourite nineties hits

This year, in a brand new section, Frieze will be revisiting seminal exhibitions from the nineties, selected by curator Nicolas Trembley, and the perfect excuse for indulging in a playlist that features Oasis, Blur, The Fugees, Nirvana and All Saints.

Style tip: The nineties slip-dress has re-emerged as a modern wardrobe staple; wear it grunge-era style with your trainers and then add 21st century polish with some chic jewellery.

Dine at:

34 Mayfair

The sleek West End establishment, favoured by the jet set and known for it’s simple but perfectly executed grilled dishes, will be hosting the VIP Room restaurant at Frieze London for the first time. Head to its Grosvenor Square home for a preview.

Style tip: This loosely structured Marni dress is chic enough to fit perfectly into the eaterie’s relaxed but elegant dress code, but won’t become uncomfortable if you happen to overindulge!

Head to:

Frieze Sculpture Park

A major (and free) cultural attraction, following on from a successful three month residency at last year’s event, the Frieze Sculpture Park will return to Regent’s Park this time around too. For those who like their art larger than life.

Style tip: London’s great outdoors can be notoriously fickle in the autumn. Be prepared for sunshine or frost by layering one of this season’s bombers with a fine knit.

Chi-Wen Gallery and Proyectos Ultravioleta at Frieze London

The fair is getting even more global this year with first ever representations for Taiwan and Guatemala. From the former, the Chi-Wen gallery will be bringing Yin-Ju Chen, with Proyectos Ultravioleta presenting Elisabeth Wild and Vivian Suter for the latter.

Style tip: Be inspired by the vibrancy of these two regions by embracing colour and print – you’ll be able to wear this Andrea Marques silk jumpsuit over classic staples for an instant injection of style fun!

Bella Freud Sweatshirt

Anyone who says this little Bella Freud number is too on the nose for an art fair is just a spoilsport! The British designer (and daughter of painter Lucian Freud) is known for her quirky, slogan knits, making this an instantly recognisable conversation piece.

Style tip: The sweater and mini-skirt combo is a huge look for AW16, so team this knit with a kicky A-line number and boots to show that you know your fashion as well as your art.
