Off-White Sneakers: A sizing, fit and styling guide

WORDS BY STEPHEN YU

Alongside Nike, Virgil Abloh and his team of designers at Off-White single-handedly rejuvenated the sneaker collaboration game in 2017 with their ‘The Ten’ collection. Familiar yet original, referential whilst still being innovative, it was one of the first collaborations to have true mainstream crossover. It’s not uncommon to see one of Abloh’s Swoosh-branded sneakers on the feet of fashion editors, streetwear OGs, and TikTok influencers alike. Although sneakers were already a mainstay in the uniforms of the fashion-savvy, ‘The Ten’ essentially made the general public more receptive to future collaborations from the likes of Sacai or Undercover and helped place Abloh on the Mount Rushmore of sneaker designers next to Kanye West, Tinker Hatfield and Travis Scott.

But this wasn’t Off-White’s first product to go viral. The streetwear turned luxury fashion brand had already given us such seasonal must-haves as industrial yellow belts, bags and accessories covered with Abloh’s signature speech marks, and tees emblazoned with the Off-White unofficial cross logo. So it comes as no surprise that many of the hallmarks of Virgil’s Nike collaboration already existed within Off-White's very own sneaker collection – the deconstructed paneling, transparent materials, and that iconic zip tag.

So while ‘The Ten’ has come and gone, and new Off-White x Nike sneakers are just as difficult to get hold of, Off-White own-brand sneakers just might be your shortcut to getting a hold of some of that trademark Abloh design without the stress of the Nike SNKRS app. Plus, you won’t see them plastered all over your Instagram feed either. Wondering how do Off-White shoes fit? Here are six of the most stylish disciples of all things Abloh to fill you in on Off-White shoe sizing.

My first pair of Off-White sneakers were the ODSY-1000, I love these because the design is so different to any other shoe. They're chunky like a dad shoe but are edgier because of the spiked rubber sole. Also, they come in so many different colorways which is always a plus in my books!

Styling:

Today I'm wearing the Off-Court 3.0 sneaker in white paired with a Heron Preston high-neck see-through crop top, some simple relaxed joggers, and a hoodie draped over my shoulders (just in case I get cold as it's winter in Australia at the moment). I wore them with these pieces because I wanted the orange tags on the shoes to stand out, and I also wanted to match them with the Heron Preston crop which has bright orange piping on the sleeves –– I love matching little details! But, these sneakers can literally be styled with anything because of their 'simple' yet effective design. For an everyday outfit, I’d wear them with a pair of loose Eytys jeans with a basic black or white crop and let the sneakers do all the talking. If I wanted to dress up but still be comfortable, I’d wear them with a Cold Laundry suit. If I'm vibing a more fem look I’d pair them with a cute Nike tennis dress with chunky socks.  The possibilities are pretty much endless with these sneakers!

Sizing & fit:

In my experience, some sneakers by Off-White do run big. For example, I’d go one size down in the ODSY-1000 sneaker, but the 3.0 Off-Court sneaker runs true to size. But, if you're buying them online then I’d recommend just getting your normal size, I’d rather have my sneakers be a bit too big than too small because that can always be fixed with chunky socks! Compared to my everyday Nike sneakers they fit just as comfortably. So if you're looking to upgrade your shoe game and are feeling like you want to treat yourself, I highly recommend Off-White sneakers!

Care:

The first step I’d recommend is getting a spray that coats and protects your sneakers from liquids and stains. The spray I use is Crep Protect, I use it on all my sneakers. But, you should always read the disclaimer on your particular spray to see what materials it can be used on (don't play yourself and ruin your shoes)! If you end up getting a stain or a scuff mark use Crep Protect wipes, or for harder stains the Crep Protect cleaning solution with a soft-bristled shoe brush. But, if you don't have any of these at hand, then baking soda and vinegar with a toothbrush works great as well! Next, every Off-White sneaker comes with a dust bag. After you've worn your sneakers, wipe the soles and place them into your dustbag. This prevents discoloration as well as stopping dust from getting in the shoe.

I now own the ODSY-1000 (which are really dope, they were a must-buy) as well as many of the Nike x Off-White collabs, and I used to own the ones that look like Vans sneakers too. The designs are really cool and I love the large selection of colors, they’re really easy to wear with streetwear outfits too. Of course, I keep the plastic tag on –– it makes all the difference.

Sizing & fit:

Off-White sneakers are very comfortable in my opinion but not better than Nike. For comfort, I’d still go with a pair of Nike Air or something with similar technology. For sizing, Off-White sneakers are a bit tight I find, so best to go half a size up to get the perfect fit. But, the fit is not the same on all of them, it'll depend on the shoe you want.

Styling:

I wear my Off-White sneakers with track pants, joggers, or big jeans. They go with almost any outfit when you wear them though.

Care:

As with almost all my sneakers I’m careful when walking outside, I clean them immediately when I get home, and I put them back in their boxes for storage.

My first pair of Off-White sneakers were the Nike collab Air Force 1s. I love Off-White sneakers because they’re so comfortable and super-easy to style with any outfit.

Styling:

I chose to keep it simple with an all-black fit so that the main attraction is the sneakers, but I also switched up the textures so it’s not just a boring black outfit. Off-White sneakers are pretty striking so I think it’s good to keep it simple –– I like to pair mine with a loose bottom half and a tight top. I feel like this style always goes well.

Sizing & fit:

Off-White sneakers are very true to size; you don’t have to worry about sizing up or down like some other brands. They’re very comfortable too, most are pretty lightweight whereas a lot of other brands of sneakers are a bit heavy and hard to walk in for long periods of time.

Care:

I don’t usually have to clean my sneakers regularly as I protect them with Jason Markk spray but when I do clean them I use an old towel and some soapy water.

My first and only pair of Off-White sneakers were the ODSY-1000. I liked the unique shape, design, and the chunky side-profile of the sneaker which fits perfectly with my style.

Styling:

I chose my Off-White sweater from the FW19 season because I felt like the green details of the colorway matched well with the sneakers, and combined it with black Issey Miyake trousers. I thought it was good to not mix too many brands and colors to make the shoes stand out. I usually style chunky sneakers with baggy pants as I like to be cozy and for my pants to drape over the sneakers. I don’t like to look like I’ve got boats on my feet.

Styling-wise, I’d definitely say wear oversized clothes since it’s an oversized shoe. This is a sneaker that needs to pop out in your outfit, so personally I wouldn’t go too loud with your outfit too as the shoe should be the focus in my opinion.

Sizing & fit:

I’d go half a size up as they’re a little snug. Recently, not many sneakers fit true to size so it’s pretty similar to other sneakers. Off-White sneakers are pretty comfortable but I wouldn’t say the most comfortable. The sole is constructed in a way that makes it feel like you’re floating which is both nice and weird at the same time.

Care:

I put Crep Protect on them. If I feel like they’re getting too dirty I’ll usually go to a shoe cleaning service so that I don’t damage them by trying to clean them myself.

My first pairs of Off-White sneakers were part of ‘The Ten’ collab with Nike. I got lucky and managed to win the Blazers, the Air Force 1s, and the Air Max 97s. I love the shape and details of Off-White sneakers.

Styling:

I decided to wear a pretty light outfit –– a tank top, a Craig Green shirt to match the shoes, and some wide-legged pants. I think it’s mandatory when you wear dad shoes to wear them with some large pants.

Sizing & fit:

At first, I found the sizing of the Off-white shoes to be a bit small but after wearing them for more than two minutes I realized they were OK. I took my regular size but maybe some people will have to take the size up if they have wider feet. Off-White sneakers are really comfortable.

Care:

I never really clean my shoes because when I wear them I try to be as careful as possible to avoid stains or any other issues.

I own the Off-Court 3.0 in white, the Moto-Wrap in black, and the ODSY-1000 in blue. The design of Off-White sneakers is different, that’s why I like them. There are a lot of details on each pair that makes them great, like the writing on the Off-Court or the plastic tab on each pair. Currently, I’d say the ODSY-1000 in all black is the pair I want the most –– I’m definitely going to buy them soon –– but my all-time favorite is the Moto-Wrap. I always keep the plastic tab on because it adds something to each pair. It makes a difference –– Off-White sneakers stand out from afar when they have the plastic tab. With the first pair of Off-White sneakers I got, I cut-off the plastic tab by mistake as I didn’t think of leaving it on. I regretted it later.

Sizing & fit:

Off-White sneakers are so comfortable. They’re the pair of sneakers I like to wear the most when I know I’ll have a long day. For instance, I like to wear mine when running between shows all day during fashion week. It’s such a luxury to not have painful feet at the end of the day. Most of my Off-White sneakers don’t fit true-to-size, they fit bigger so I’d suggest you take a size down. I usually wear a EU43 so I take a EU42 in Off-White sneakers.

The fit is almost the same on every pair but the Off-Court 3.0 and the ODSY-1000 are the most comfortable as they feel so soft at the sole.

Styling:

I like to style them with skinny jeans and an oversized top, that’s my current outfit. But I can literally style them with anything.

Care:

I bought a product which washes anything off sneakers. I use it on my Off-White sneakers after every use before putting them back into their box.
