WORDS BY DAISY SCOTT
Shopping sustainably has far surpassed trends. Choosing to shop positively is now on every fashion lover’s agenda. Customers want to fill their closets with brands that, not only stand the test of time but look after the planet too.
It's time for you to look for vegan alternatives — think Budapest-based Nanushka for timeless 'leather' jackets or discover handcrafted accessories from Vanina. When it's time for you to finish off your look, discover responsibly-made gold jewelry made by Alighieri that will be passed down for generations to come.
Here at FARFETCH, we care about sustainability. We are on a mission to become the global platform for good in luxury fashion — empowering everyone to choose, act and think positively.
MARINE SERRE
The fashion-conscious favorite is here. Marine Serre has garnered a cult following thanks to its fusion of French couture shapes and sportswear — don’t forget those iconic crescent moon prints too.
Wanting to promote and experiment with collections, Serre is creating a new culture and new mode with each season. The brand’s stance of sustainability remains unfavoured, we saw that back in 2020 with 50% of the Fall collection that was made from up-cycled discarded materials, of which Serre aptly names ‘regenerated’.
An example of Marine Serre that we can’t help but adore is the Second Skin Moon top featuring signature moon prints, plus it's made from sustainable Polyamide. We aren’t stopping there either, discover cotton Moonfish straight-leg jeans that complete your outfit.
ALIGHIERI
If you’re looking to add romantic jewelry to your collection, then look no further than Alighieri. Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s classic novel, Divine Comedy, the British brand creates sublime collections that are both, poetic and reflective of the pre-Renaissance themes in the literary muse.
Believing that sustainability is the key to taking care of things that we own while supporting local trade and craftsmanship. Each piece of jewelry has been cast and plated by a family-run business whose craft has been passed down through generations.
Additionally, the core Alighieri pieces are cast in recycled bronze before being plated in gold or made in solid Sterling Silver, if there are any cut-offs from each casting, these pieces are put into the raw materials mix and will be used to create another Alighieri talisman.
If you’ve fallen in love with the romance of Alighieri, then discover our favourite pieces from the collection — we adore the minimalism of the Silhouette of Desire necklace and romance of the Infernal Storm earrings featuring drop pearls. But, as they say, love is in the eye of the beholder and there's plenty of pieces to fall for.
NANUSHKA
Developing a holistic approach to fashion, Nanushka creates collections that “nurture the soul, nature, communities and fulfil their function.” Exploring everything that the planet provides, the Budapest-based label uses materials that won’t become waste — most famously using vegan alternatives for leather (everyone has fallen in love with their faux leather pants and jackets).
Our favourite Nanushka pieces to date are the famous Namas high-waisted pants made from sustainable fabrics and supple alternatives to leather — you most likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Of course, you can finish off your look with a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses — what’s not to love?
BY WALID
Using archival fabrics that are no longer in production, such as linen from the 1920s and repurposed embroidered cotton, By Walid has a positive approach to fashion. Each piece lends its focus to the design process, reminding its customers of the process that has been adopted so that these intricate pieces can make their way into your accessory collection.
Our favorite By Walid piece to date is the Connie patchwork lace-up shoes that have been constructed from upcycled linen, featuring a flat rubber sole. These shoes have been made from repurposed materials that are positive to the planet and your closet.
VANINA
If you're looking to find accessories that steal attention but remain kind to Mother Nature, then VANINA should be your first choice. Growing out of a friendship between Tatiana Fauad and Joanne Hayek in 2007, the accessories brand considers the mark they leave on the planet.
Each piece in the collection has been handcrafted, with a keen passion for promoting the local community through craftmanship and environmental awareness. Adopting a closed-loop production system; each piece can be traced back to its origins. As well as this, the team invest in local craftmanship while exploring innovative technological designs that help minimize the ecological footprint through all stages.
A piece that we adore from the collection? The Les Ailes D’Ecailles tote bag featuring faux leather and is adorned with white seashells. The best part about choosing a favorite piece is that all Vanina bags are not only sustainable but ready to be taken into each season. Plus, who doesn't love a bag that can be taken on every summer vacation?
MANNING CARTELL
For over a decade, Manning Cartell has been recognized as one of Australia’s most sought-after brands, but what remains a stand-out is the brand's combined passion for innovation, sustainability, and design. The outcome? Trans-seasonal draped dresses and effortless tops in a neutral color palette.
We can’t get enough of the effortlessness of their flowing high-waist Instant Connection pants featuring a straight-leg silhouette, as well as the silk-wrap Beyond Codes blouse that adds elegance to any of your outfits.
