With less than a month to go on the countdown, start taking the expert shopper’s approach to the sales…
WORDS BY ALEXANDRA RHODES
When it comes to the Black Friday scrum, we have one piece of advice for you: stay at home. Shop online. Not only will you avoid the inevitable chaos but also - and here we’ll let you in on a secret - you can do something pro shoppers have been doing for years: prepare a shopping game plan. Compile your wishlist in advance, and once your chosen piece is added to your saved items you can easily see if it has reduced in price. That way you’ll be able to check out in as much time as it takes to say ‘mine!’
But first, inspiration on what to buy from some of our stylish friends. Happy shopping…
Holly Mitchell and Louisa Miller, The Boyfriend Shirt
‘We’re both lusting over these playful Stella McCartney jeans and are hoping we can snap them up in the sale - they’ll work perfectly with trainers for brunch with the girls.’
‘We have pulled together a collection of playful pieces that are easy to pair with classic wardrobe staples. Case in point: this colourful creation from Australian designer Romance Was Born, which we've been eyeing up for a while.’
Lex Mak, Mr Gumbatron
‘This Saint Laurent jacket will look great when you first buy it, but will look even better in 20 years when your kids will be asking to borrow it. It’s a classic tailored silhouette that can be styled in so many different ways.’
‘A wool blazer is another wardrobe classic, which is very versatile to style. This jacket from Italian designer Canali is half lined and has soft rolled lapels for that effortless casual look.’
Mary Gui, Layers of Chic
‘I love the mix of the feminine print with the sporty stripes on this Coach jacket, plus the Peter Pan collar detail is an unexpected surprise. A bomber is perfect for the Fall to Winter transition and can be layered with a thick turtleneck or knit dress for the cooler months.’
‘For Black Friday, I am seeking essential investment pieces that make a statement. I'm loving the pink safety pin dress from Sonia Rykiel for brunch or a party.’
Joel Mcloughlin, Gallucks
‘This year I'd like to pick up a coat or jacket that will hopefully become a staple in my winter wardrobe. I like this plaid style by Represent.’
‘I love this Saint Laurent Je t'aime bomber jacket, it looks like it would keep me nice and warm whilst giving off American collegiate vibes in black and yellow.’
Yuki Haze and Erika Bowes, Sukeban
‘I chose this pink romantic ruffle dress by Valentino simply because it is my dream outfit.’
‘I’m so obsessed with glitter, pearls and pink right now, so these Miu Miu shoes are such a dream and will look so cute with the Valentino.’
Aaron Wester, The Modern Otter
‘I see Black Friday as the perfect opportunity to nab something from a designer I have been dying to wear for as long as I can remember - like Thom Browne.’
‘I’m looking to create the ultimate capsule Winter wardrobe, so everything on my wish list pairs pretty well together. I want to look like I’m climbing a mountain, but a really chic mountain.’
Kirsten Anderton, The Fashion Faddist
‘Clothing wise, investing in a blazer is a must as they can tie even the simplest of outfits together. This grey check Stella McCartney piece is the perfect alternative to black.’
‘My last item is really no surprise: these RE/DONE boyfriend jeans. I live in denim and the quality and ease of wear is really important to me.’
