The Ultimate Air Force 1 Sizing and Fit Guide

At 37 years old, Nike’s Air Force 1 is ageing like fine wine. Sure it has had a few nips and tucks along the way, but essentially, it’s the same old, air-soled sneaker. But does it still offer the same on-foot experience?

Does an 80s sneaker that has been recently redesigned by everyone from Virgil Abloh to Travis Scott to A-COLD-WALL* keep a consistent fit? A tricky question. One that can only be answered by those who own an abundance of Air Force 1 sneakers.

Enter our Ultimate Air Force 1 Sizing and Fit Guide, created with the help of three influential sneakerheads who (lucky for us) practically have Air Forces coming out of their ears.

Whenever you see someone wearing a fresh pair of Air Force 1s you can't help but notice them, simply because they’re a true classic in the sneaker game. They’re super easy to pair with anything and are an easy way to add a touch of street to an outfit in a way that still keeps everything clean.

My first pair of Air Force 1s was, of course, an all-white pair. I remember how excited I was to be able to buy my first pair after saving all of my allowance money. I just couldn't wait to wear them on my first day of high school — they were such a staple!  The silhouette of the Air Force 1 in such a classic and is so easy to pair with just about anything. It's an easy way to add a touch of street to a look in a way that still keeps the outfit clean.

Comfort and Fit:
The comfort of the Air Force 1s definitely varies depending on the pair; Nike has enhanced the Air Force 1 models over the past few years. If we are talking about the classics, I would say the comfort is around an 8/10. They can sometimes start to feel a little heavy if you are running errands all day.

For someone like me with a narrow foot, the sizing of an Air Force 1 Low can sometimes feel a little wide but nothing some thick Nike socks can't fix. Lengthwise: the sizing has always been true to size. I've been wearing a US 7.5 since my first pair back in 2005. The only pair I've ever owned of Mid/High tops Air Forces are a pair of the newer versions that are constructed with flyknit. I also wore these in a 7.5 in and the comfort for this specific shoe was extremely lightweight.

Care:
A lot of people try to avoid creasing their Air Force 1s and I'm not one of those. I definitely will try and avoid getting them dirty but overall I like my shoes to tell a story. When I do clean them I will wash the laces and use some cleaning products to give them a good scrub.

Not only are AF1 lows extremely easy to style due to their simplistic design, but they’re also (usually) very affordable. They can be an everyday beater or even the statement piece of your outfit, a claim that very few sneaker silhouettes can boast. They’re also quite bulky in size, a style I personally prefer to ‘skinnier’ sneakers.

My first pair of AF1 lows were the original Nike x Travis Scott collaboration in white with 3 different styles of attachable swooshes. I absolutely love them but they get dirty so easy, and that’s why they’re reserved for sunny days. Last year I managed to cop the Nike x Off-White AF1 Lows in ‘Volt’ and they’re definitely one of my favourites.

Comfort and Fit:
I’ve owned quite a few pairs of AF1 Lows in my time and I’d probably say they’re one of the comfiest Nike sneakers available. They have a good amount of insole padding and also offer enough space so that they never feel restrictive. Importantly, the AF1 Lows do not catch on your heel or leg, as some of the mid and highs can do.

I often find that Nike sneakers fit a fraction too big and therefore I go for a half size down. Saying that, I find the mids and highs are slightly tighter, especially around the ankle. So with those, I usually go a half size up.

Care:
I care for my AF1s with wet wipes. I swear they have a magic ingredient in them which gives a good clean finish.

The Air Force 1 is a timeless, legendary sneaker and one that everyone should own. Why? Because it’s a sneaker that always looks good and works for everyday use.

My first pair of Air Force 1s was an OG triple white pair: a perfect sneaker for any outfit in any situation. It’s classic, it’s comfortable and it’s the chosen sneaker for many Nike collaborations.

Comfort and Fit:
As far as I am aware, Air Force 1s have always fit the same. I always opt for a half size up because I think leather shoes are more comfortable this way. I must say that occasionally when the materials are switched-up they do feel slightly different, however, I personally always cop the same size.

Albeit, I own a pair of Supreme x Nike Air Force 1s that fit slightly small. So if I was up to purchase a new pair of Air Force 1 Highs I would opt for a pair that are half a size up.

Care:
I care for my Air Force 1 like every other sneaker in my collection, with sneaker cleaning products. But I also tried once the washing machine and it worked perfectly.
