Originating in the 1930s, the penny loafer is so-named because of the slot to the front of the shoe, which allowed space to fit a penny, which was the cost of a payphone call at the time. Though the need to store change in one's shoe, should a phone call be necessary, has largely subsided in modern days, the design has nevertheless cemented itself as a timeless classic. Tod's updates this design, presenting an iteration crafted in smooth suede, with the textured, pebbled sole offering a welcome contrast to the elegant upper.
