If you’re the kind of girl who finds the sneaker world, frankly, overwhelming (you get your kicks from new-season Sies Marjan over elusive Triple S and Yeezy drops), you’re in luck. Stella McCartney and adidas’ latest release, Stella #stansmith, has all the hype of a sell-out sneaker, times by simplicity and ease. Win-win.
The best part? It’s a sneaker with a good heart. The first ever vegan adidas of its kind, Stella McCartney continues in her mission for an eco-friendly, cruelty-free fashion space. So for a sneaker that’s all about the feel-good (sustainability plus style) look no further. Here’s everything you need to know.
How would a sneaker obsessive describe the shoe?
It’s all in the detail. A shake-up from adidas’ iconic Stan Smith, Smith’s face appears on the right sneaker, and Stella’s portrait on the left – not forgetting Stella’s scribbled signature, too. Most noteworthy, though, are the label’s signature stripes replaced by lines of tiny Stella stars and the Kelly-green heel, now in burgundy and navy colour-block.
Why all the hype?
For the first time in the sneaker’s history, Stan Smith (not the guy) has made the move to veganism, with a modern Stella twist. Continuing a thirteen-year collaboration with sporting behemoth, adidas, the duo’s past accolades include designing recycled plastic shoes made from the sea to outfits for the GB Olympic Athletics.
Could you wear these around the office?
Absolutely. The day that trainers made the transition from gym-only staple to signature workwear was a revelation – who now could survive a full day at the office (and a commute!) in a pair of stilettos?
Are they gym proof?
Maybe not. Stan Smith originals might have been made specifically for the tennis legend, but these Stella beauties will seldom step foot on a court, or treadmill for that matter. They’re best off box-fresh, worn with a Borgo de Nor number.
