That Italy has produced yet another fashion talent is hardly news, but up and comer Marco de Vincenzo’s pieces are certainly newsworthy. Part of the country’s new generation of designers ripping up the rulebook, the Sicilian’s collections are a lesson in beautiful contradictions: contemporary yet timeless, minimalist and maximalist. Expect fluffy fabrics jazzing up a classic stiletto and patchwork adding pizzazz to old-school cardigans. And here, we’re talking likes, dislikes, and lots of style with the man himself…
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
‘I thought about the past and future - I was looking for stereotypes mixed with today’s staples.’
Can you give us a hint on your next exciting project?
‘I’m collaborating with artists, movie directors and illustrators. I like to use other languages to support my aesthetic - I’ve just been to Miami Art Basel, for example.’
What’s your hidden talent?
‘Throw[ing] water on the fire. If you’re ever under pressure at work, it’s a very useful skill to have.’
Dream destination and why?
‘I just bought a small house on the sea - it was a long time dream of mine, so I can’t wait to spend some time there.’
What’s your biggest vice?
‘Dark chocolate.’
Who do you follow on Instagram and why?
‘I follow people who inspire me, who amuse me and who illuminate me in worlds that are different from mine.’
If you could own only one piece from your collection on Farfetch, what would it be?
‘The poplin shirt with foulard patch pocket from RE18; it’s very representative of what I like today.’
And finally, tell us, what's your favourite style tip?
‘A man’s shirt over a skirt. I find it a perfect duo!’
