WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS
When we think of hip hop’s highest rank – rappers so influential, they influence every aspect of the creative industry (including fashion) – only a handful of contemporary artists come to mind. Namely, we think of Kanye West, Drake, Pharrell, Jay-Z and Kendrick. But at some point during the last few years, a new rapper reached highly influential status: Jacques Bermon Webster II, AKA Travis Scott.
At the time of writing, Travis Scott has released three studio albums, two collaborative albums, four EPs and two mixtapes, all of which received public and critical acclaim. He also has his own festival, Astroworld Festival, inspired by his affinity for theme parks and his third studio album; plus, he owns his own record label, Cactus Jack Records, named after his nickname.
What has the Houston-born creative been up to outside of music? As well as putting his stamp on a slew of classic and contemporary Nike sneaker silhouettes, creating a scent for Byredo; designing a collection for Dior (with a little help from Kim Jones) and being a hands-on dad for his adorable daughter, Stormi, he’s solely responsible for shifting the concept of music merch back into the mainstream. Essentially, he picked up from where Ye left off.
Below, we spotlight our favourite pieces of Travis Scott merch available on FARFETCH and provide you with the lowdown on Travis Scott merch sizing.
In 2020, Travis Scott released his most unexpected line of merch thus far – a collection of pieces created in collaboration with fast-food chain McDonald’s.
As expected, the designs fuse the rapper’s iconography with that of the restaurant brand to create a collection of ironically commercial yet fashionable garms, like these conspicuous illustration shorts.
Streetwear brand Cactus Plant Flea Market (CPFM) jumped onto the Travis Scott x McDonald’s collection, lending their voguish aesthetic to the collaboration to create sure-fire future grails. Pieces interpreted by the three-way collab include a funky cardigan, striking tote, playful rug and an array of super wearable tees and hoodies.
The tee that we’ve still got on our wishlist is the Travis Scott x Mcdonald’s x CPFM red tee, adorned with text on the front and back and an abstract illustration of the rapper consuming a burger. Gosh, isn’t streetwear fun.
Aforementioned, the Southern rapper has lent his aesthetic to some of the most popular Nike and Jordan brand sneaker silhouettes over the last few years. To coincide with the release of the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 ‘British Khaki’, Travis teamed up with the Jumpman to design a collection of neutral apparel inspired by the creps.
The must-have piece of Scott’s British Khaki collection comes in the form of a military vest. Embellished with red Cactus Jack and Jordan branding, the layer is ideal for adding a modish touch to an everyday get-up.
Evidently, Travis Scott’s knack for spotting hype extends to the food and drink industry as in March 2021, the rapper released his own seltzer line named Cacti, just weeks before the beverage became a global phenomenon.
To celebrate the release of the seltzer, Scott dropped a Cacti collection on his official webstore – simultaneously advertising his new beverage and providing fans with fresh new pieces. The standout piece? It has got to be this deep yellow long-sleeved tee that’s practically made for those tricky, sticky trans-seasonal periods.
Every seven years or so, gamers are faced with an impossible decision: PlayStation or Xbox. To influence people – chiefly millennials and Gen-Z’s – to buy into the PS experience, Sony enlisted the help of Travis Scott who released a super-exclusive Travis Scott x PlayStation x Nike Dunk Low and a line of Travis Scott x PlayStation apparel.
The classic crew neck sweatshirt may be one of the most austere pieces of the drop, but its use of the classic PS1 logo combined with the nostalgic PlayStation grey hue instantly excites our inner child. Hence, it’s our preferred piece from the collection.
On the 27th December 2019, Scott’s Cactus Jack Records released a compilation album titled Jackboys, named after a collective consisting of Don Toliver, Sheck Wes, Luxury Tax and Travis himself. As anticipated, the rapper dropped a line of merch to celebrate the release of the album.
One of the most sought-after garms from the Jackboys collection is the white cotton front-pouch hoodie, adorned with a garish boy racer car on the front and the back. Thanks to the layer’s classic cut and simple design, the hoodie is guaranteed to freshen up any ensemble.
Travis was a trailblazer for the recent hike-inspired streetwear trend, and his Cactus Jack Trails collection released in spring 2020 alongside his Nike Air Max 720 encompassed the experience of escaping into rural terrains. Aptly, the collection relies on an Earthy colour palette and features outdoorsy emblems.
This Travis Scott Cactus Trails tri-colour jacket is one of the most versatile Travis Scott pieces of the drop – we mean, what couldn’t you pair this tonal fleece with? Plus, it’s uber functional, super snug and fittingly suitable for wet and windy adventures.
Travis Scott’s Astroworld tour was unlike any other, and we were fortunate enough to go there, do that and buy the T-shirt. But, if you missed out on tickets for the tour, we’re pleased to inform you that you can still get your hands on some of the most coveted Astroworld pieces, right here on FARFETCH. For now, anyway.
Take the Astroworld Sicko Mode tee, for example, inspired by Travis Scott’s unorthodox hit with fellow rapper Drake. Popular because of its use of Scott’s signature chocolate brown hue and instantly-recognisable Astroworld graphics, this graphic tee is an essential purchase for hardcore hip hop fans.
