WORDS BY AMELIA BELL
Paris is the final stop on the Fashion Week flight-path, where weary editors (after a month of back-to-back shows) drag themselves across the city in search of something new. And this time, that includes Melbourne-based photographer Danielle Castano. Although worlds away from her native Australia, the style she’s seeing during Paris Fashion Week tells a story somewhat closer to home. Through her photographic journal, Danielle captures five trends which are set to dominate Australia’s new season 10,000 miles away.
NEON
‘Thanks to Prada, Off-White and Maison Margiela, neon’s having a moment in the spotlight. Plenty of guests embraced neon via subtle accessories (see: Prada’s fiery heels and the famous Hortensia courtesy of Wandler). I expect to see Aussie girls adding neon accessories as a way to update a classic summer outfit.’
BIKE SHORTS
‘Already a favourite amongst local Australian influencers (thanks to Vogue Australia’s Christine Centenera), bike shorts were also a firm fixture during Paris Fashion Week. Ideal for summer and showing off toned, tanned legs, bike shorts will be everywhere this season; worn with heels and a blazer for those fashion fans; an oversized tee and slides for off-duty days.’
THE NEW TRENCH
‘From ‘J’adore Dior’ logos to Burberry’s cool sketch prints, the trench coat’s had quite the shake-up of late. These new, experimental iterations are perfect for spring/summer; they can be easily slung over the shoulders in the evening once the sun has gone down and will make a great additional layer for the Spring Races.’
TECH SNEAKERS
‘Balenciaga’s Triple S, Gucci flashtrek sneakers, new Nike Air Vapormax – tech sneakers are going nowhere this season. How the Aussie girls will be wearing theirs? With summer dresses courtesy of Ellery or high-waisted denim shorts.’
COLOURED LENSES
‘From subtle caramel to sheer pink, coloured frames - the clear winner this Paris Fashion Week - are sure to be a key trend for the upcoming season. Every Aussie girl loves to update her sunglasses during summer and a pair of coloured aviators are just the thing to switch up last season’s cat eye shape.’
