10 essential outfits to pack for the Fiji islands

Share

There are approximately 330 Fiji islands in total with only about a third of them inhabited, making the archipelago ripe for exploration. With that in mind then, what could possibly be a better excuse for packing up your bags and organising to visit Fiji in the not-too-distant future?

Whether it’s a spur of the moment journey or one that’s been in the works for a while, a little forward planning is all you should need in the wardrobe department.

For Fiji holidays, there are at least 10 items that are always helpful to have on-hand: your swimwear and sunglasses for lying by the pool; denim separates and a cotton T-shirt for day-to-day shopping expeditions; a cocktail dress or tailored trousers for dinners out, plus the dressier pair of shoes and accessories to go with them; and finally your breezy beachwear, which includes flat footwear, a beach bag and something to toss on over your swimmers. Once you’ve got the essentials sorted, your destination awaits.

Poolside essentials

Poolside essentials are a good place to start when planning your holiday wardrobe for trips to Fiji. These are a few of the non-negotiable items that can kick your packing into gear. A bikini or a pair of board shorts, for instance, are crucial for days spent beachside on these stunning Fiji islands.

Meanwhile, a reliable pair of sunglasses will also help you to brave the elements in style. Take a cue from Miranda Kerr who teams a printed bikini with vintage-inspired oversized sunglasses for days spent by the beach. Dolce and Gabbana offer beautiful prints here, which also have the added benefit of injecting a little colour into your versatile holiday wardrobe.

Shopping in Nadi

When you're not lying by the pool or taking a beachside stroll, you might want to explore the shopping markets on Fiji islands such as Nadi and Suva. Comfortable, breathable separates are ideal for these sorts of expeditions, which is why it's important to pack a rotation of basics, especially of the denim and cotton variety. Phoebe Tonkin, for example, proves the enduring elegance of a white cotton T-shirt with a pair of denim cut-offs by the likes of Nobody Denim. Then you can simply add your pair of flat shoes and embark on the hunt for beautiful local silks, like a scarf to complete your outfit.

Meanwhile, men could consider the SS17 J.W. Anderson collection, for instance – where plaid could be seen littered throughout. Think less 'Farmer Wants a Wife' here and more two-tone checks paired with tailored shorts and a pair of moccasins.  A revitalised approach to smart summer dressing, outfits like these should see you through your Fiji holidays in style.

Relaxed eveningwear

Some of the Fiji islands might be private and secluded but that doesn't mean you'll be in for a Castaway situation. In fact, many of Fiji's best luxury resorts boast the finest quality dining, so it's important to pack a change of clothes for evening. Dinner reservations at Matangi Private Island Resort, for instance, call for stylish separates like a pair of tailored trousers and a crisp button-down shirt. Liam Hemsworth opts for a timeless white-and-beige combination, finishing the outfit off with a pair of suede loafers by the likes of Salvatore Ferragamo.

Meanwhile, women can embrace heightened femininity here. Consider turning to the Chloé SS17 collection for inspiration, where floaty styles were edged with ruffled hemlines in all colours from the blackest black to the girliest pink. Once pared back with a strappy sandal and a streamlined clutch, this look simply yearns to be whisked away on trips to Fiji.

Breezy beachwear

Finally, Fiji holidays certainly call for some quality beach time – best believe breezy essentials like flat footwear, a cotton dress and the bag to toss it all into are almost non-negotiable. Flat sandals by Givenchy, for example, team well with white cotton dresses and a roomy carry-all. While swim shorts and a tank to toss on over the top keep things effortlessly simple in the men’s department.

When it comes to your beach bags though, these needn’t be the traditional canvas sacks, but could take the form of a more sophisticated tote bag instead. After all, being on holidays doesn't mean your personal style should take a time out as well. So with just a handful of core pieces then, your Fiji trips really can be as simple as packing your bags and turning up for the flight.
