WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS
Dressing your little ones up in fire fits isn’t about gloating, boasting or ‘chasing clout’, but prompting them to discover their own sense of style. Thanks to our own style-savvy parents and guardians, we were conscious of the concept of fashion from an early age, and now we owe them our careers.
To the surprise of no one, the coolest thing you can currently deck out your youngsters in is bright, bold and beautiful streetwear. Most especially, the kind that resembles your own off-duty style – think mini ERL puffers, tiny Off-White tees and fun-size adidas Yeezy runners.
Below, we take you through our list of the eight best kids streetwear brands available at FARFETCH. Par for the course, we’ve spotlighted the stand out piece from each brand’s latest collection.
It's been a long time coming, but, finally, Off-White kidswear is here! That’s right, you can now dress your mini-me in all of Virgil Abloh’s archetypal pieces: from industrial-style hoodies to zip tag sneakers – you name it, there’s a scaled-down version of it!
One of the most powerful pieces from the extensive Off-White kidswear AW21 collection is this punchy red rounded-logo cotton hoodie complete with striped sleeves, a circle zipper pull and handy pouch pockets.
There's a certain effortlessness about Palm Angel’s kidswear collection. Each piece is of the throw-on-and-go kind – the kind busy parents have desired for aeons.
Take these side-striped track pants, for example. You can pair these trousers with a Palm Angels track top if you and your kiddiewink are jumping aboard a flight, a clean white tee if you're taking them to a playdate at the local park or a simple shirt if you’re dragging them to a compulsory family lunch.
Stone Island Junior provides style-conscious little ones across the world with minimalist streetwear pieces that are as practical as they're stylish. We’re talking about the type of garbs that you’ll be sad to see them grow out of.
One Stone Island Junior offering we’ve got our eye on is the orange logo-patch sweatshirt. We just love the way the warm, striking shade intensifies the frill-free silhouette.
A BATHING APE®
A Bathing Ape® is one of the greatest streetwear brands of all time, and the label’s kidswear line certainly doesn’t disappoint. From shark-print track pants to padded camo coats, it’s hard to go wrong when picking up pieces from the Japanese streetwear brands for your best-loved rugrats.
Struggling to decide which BAPE piece to pick out for your pickney? Allow us to make a suggestion. This space-themed graphic-print sweatshirt is cute, comfortable (100% cotton, don’t you know) and classic. What more could you ask for?
If you count yourself as a fervent fashion follower, ERL is a brand that should already be on your radar. The California-based label – founded by multi-hyphenate Eli Russell Linnetz in 2018 – is responsible for some of the most vibrant streetwear pieces on the market. A selection of these pieces has reached the childrenswear market.
If you ask us, the standout piece from ERL’s first kidswear line is the sunset pattern puffer jacket. Oh, how we wish we could’ve rocked this coat during our childhood. *Sighs*
C.P Company is a consistent, reliable and hard-working Italian label that produces high-quality pieces for everyone – including your little sprogs. As one would expect, the brand’s kidswear line stays true to the brand’s aesthetic: simple silhouettes elevated with subtle utilitarian details.
Our favourite C.P Company Kids piece? It’s got to be the pocket-sized take on the brand’s signature Goggle Hat. Preferably, we’d pick one up in the cosy ‘Desert Sun’ colourway.
adidas Yeezy sneakers are functional, modish and fun – in other words, they’re everything a pair of kidswear kicks needs to be. So, we recommend you grab a pair for your beloved little rascals before they’re all sold out!
Which pair should you cop? Right now, we’re very much inclined to say the recently-released ‘Vermillion’ Foam Runners. Constructed with a bouncy yet durable algae foam and EVA foam blend, these little kickers are practically perfect for all indoor and outdoor activities.
ICYMI, NYC sneaker and streetwear boutique Stadium Goods recently ventured into kidswear. The result? A collection of unfussy, easy-to-style and environmentally-friendly hoodies and joggers, guaranteed to suit every youngster in your life.
If we had to pick just one piece from STADIUM Kids, it would be the eye-catching ‘Tennessee Orange’ Eco sweatshirt. Like the rest of the kidswear collection, the sweatshirt is designed in LA and constructed from 50% recycled cotton and 50% organic cotton.
