August is shaping up to be one of the hottest months this year...and not just when it comes to the weather. And culturally and sartorially speaking, it’s our hand-picked selection that is really heating up!

Magpie, London

New from the founders of Michelin-starred restaurant Pidgin, Magpie serves up a modern British menu straight from a trolley (mirroring traditional dim sum-style service). A fun and novel approach to current fine dining, opening 25th July.

What to wear: Reflect the modern ambience here with a tailored two-piece. We’re ranking Victoria Beckham’s nautically reworked skirt and blouse duo for AW17.

Sunshower, Tokyo

This, the largest ever exhibition of Southeast Asian contemporary art, is held in the National Art Center in Tokyo and explores art from the eighties onwards. Making reference to growth, faith and tradition in a truly dynamic and diverse culture, check it out from 5th July to 23rd October.

What to wear: Turn to the designers mastering art-school cool: think boxy tailoring and modern strap details from Joseph, or forward-thinking, Japanese cult favourite Sacai.

Transitional Dresses

Get clever with your capsule wardrobe by looking to the pieces that bridge the trans-seasonal gap in effortless style. Not bound to any season (or location), a mid-length dress will lend itself to unpredictable weather.

What to wear: Be brave with your investments – swap muted tones for a modern geometric print.

Sour Heart by Jenny Zhang

Fueled by Jenny Zhang’s subtle humour, Sour Heart is a series of 7 stories and illuminates the complex and muddled inner lives of immigrant adolescent girls struggling to define themselves. Out 1st August.

What to wear: This a smart read that needs a literary look to match. Embrace the bookish charm of Gucci’s AW17 collection with a bold, prim-and-proper shift dress.

Afropunk Festival, Brooklyn

With an audience as diverse as its eclectic line-up, Brooklyn’s annual Afropunk celebration is a vivid interpretation of individuality and self expression. It returns to Commodore Barry Park on 26th-27th August, and with new dates in Paris, London and Johannesburg, the good vibes are going global.

What to wear: This free-spirited music hub isn’t for fashion’s faint-hearted. Be bold with clashing textures, juxtaposing prints and colour-pop accessories.
