Ready your scrolling fingers (and your wallet): the Farfetch sale is about to start! But when there’s so much choice, how do you find the right pieces to invest in? We’ve all been there — aimlessly trawling through endless sales pages in a late-night, caffeine-fuelled browsing frenzy. It’s easy to get swept up in the mania of discount shopping, so to help you make the most out of your hard earned cash, here are some tips and tricks to bag the best bargains…
1. Make a wishlist in advance
This may sound obvious, but making a list of specific pieces you’ve got your eye on before the sale is the easiest way to ensure you get exactly what you want (and avoid impulse-purchase regret). Preparation is key. Even if you don’t end up buying anything, it’s always fun to create a dream wardrobe, but if the stars are aligned, you may well be able to nab those sock boots you’ve been coveting at half price: win-win!
2. Choose items that can fit into your current wardrobe
Even the veteran shoppers amongst us fall prey to the temptation of an impulse buy. That trendy, OTT piece may look great on the catwalk, but collecting dust on your hangers at home is decidedly less glamourous. Get to know your current wardrobe inside out and before you make a purchase, ask yourself: what do I already have that can go with this? It’s no good splashing out on a statement jacket if you’ve also got to buy a whole new outfit to make it work.
4. Filter your browsing
Nothing is more exhausting than spending hours scrolling the sales with no purpose. Save time and shop smarter by using the filter options on each page: shop by price range, percentage of discount, size, colour, style, category and designer. This way, you’ll narrow your search results and be able to find items that fit your budget.
5. Focus on accessories and jewellery
We’ve all been there. You find that perfect shoe or top, only to be crushed by the realisation that it’s sold out in your size. Avoid disappointment by targeting items that don’t require size fittings. We’re talking scarves, belts, hats, earrings, necklaces, keyrings and bags. Basically, anything that comes in a handy one-size-fits-all category. Plus, accessories usually have a lower price-point, which means there’s a little something for everyone. An ill-fitting dress may fail you, but an embellished handbag guarantees joy.
6. Buy multiple sizes with every purchase
Online shopping comes with many benefits, but no one enjoys running to the post office for endless returns. That’s why you should try to purchase multiple sizes in as few orders as possible — that way if you need to return something, you can do it all in one go and also save on multiple shipping fees. Easy-peasy.
7. Pick the right time to buy
There’s something about the sales that makes even the most rational of us leave reason at the door and impulsively buy the first thing we see. Why? Well, in case it sells out of course. Don’t let sale panic overwhelm you. Of course, if you’ve got your heart set on a particular item and can’t risk losing out, by all means purchase away. If, however, you’re one of the many ‘window’ shoppers and don’t have a specific piece in mind, sometimes it pays to bide your time and wait for further reductions down the line. There’s nothing quite like the euphoria of nabbing a bargain at 60 percent off.
