Trending: An Ode to Orange

Share

WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS

Newsflash: Orange isn’t the new black. Orange is orange, and we should love it for all its vibrancy instead of comparing it to anything else (keep doing you, orange). Recently we’ve noticed menswear designers are experimenting with those bold Vitamin C shades more than ever, with heavy doses appearing at men’s fashion weeks and street style all over the world.

To celebrate this growing appreciation of orange, we spoke to four menswear masterminds about how they wear the hottest of colours while keeping their cool.

Diego Gonzalez-Zuniga in Ports V

“Orange represents a sense of adventure, and I think playing with bright colours is important to growing, evolving and owning your style. I love this Ports V twin set (jacket and trousers) which features shades of mandarin, primary orange and warm citrus — I’m seeing a huge trend in colour gradients. Summer really is the time to incorporate lively colours into your outfit, and I chose to wear the jacket and trousers recently to New York Men’s Fashion Week. The look really grabbed people’s attention and helped me stand out from the crowd. ”

Eric Jess in Off-White

“When it comes to styling orange I try to keep my look simple; orange speaks for itself so you don’t need too many other elements. I’ve styled my Orange Off-White Industrial Belt (read more about it here) with a black graphic tee; I think black is the perfect contrasting element to pair with orange. Orange looks slick when mixed with denim and neutrals but you can also wear it with other bold colours such as green when you feel brave enough to try a more striking ensemble. The vivid colour is popular with streetwear brands such as Off-White right now as it offers the perfect blast of colour to your wardrobe.”

Sabir M Peele in Coach x Keith Haring

“Orange is truly an underrated colour, and I think it's time for guys to add a splash of it to elevate their style. This orange Coach x Keith Haring souvenir jacket I’m wearing looks great paired with black but I also can’t wait to rock it with white denim. Wearing a piece like this to a dinner party, red-carpet event or even to the bar with friends are all options — I’m even thinking about wearing it to an elegant New Years Eve party. I predict that orange will be a top trend for at least a few more years, so be on the lookout for tons of rust and burnt orange in everything from suits to swimwear.”

Anthony Urbano in Champion

“I’m wearing these true orange Champion track pants as fit so well with my current sporty vibe. I’d say that athleisure all stems from sportswear, so the fact that numerous sports kits feature bright colours like orange explains the origins of the trend. Living in New York, I can wear my orange Champion track pants almost anywhere - casual settings, a bar, out running errands or even to a fashion event — I’d just outfit them differently depending on the occasion.”
