WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS
Chunky but funky, a phrase one usually only comes across on days spent swiping away on Tinder, is the perfect way to describe our latest sneaker arrival (a definite swipe right). The Adidas Yung 1 — ironically named considering its dadcore aesthetic — is Adidas’ answer to today’s bigger-is-better trainer trend and inspired by our 90s retro crush, the Adidas Falcon Dorf. *Heart eyes emoji*
Adidas Yung 1 Size and Fit
Less casual hook up, more long-term commitment, the Adidas Yung 1 is a dependable sort: the comfortable wide fit, those sculpted lightweight EVA midsoles, Adidas’ patent Torsion system rubber outsoles for extra stability. It has depth too — somewhere under all those layers of nubuck, suede and mesh is an authentic take on what Adidas are calling “retro nostalgia” i.e. what happens when the sportswear giant decides to raid its vast archive.
Adidas Yung 1 Looks
Solid in the looks department, it has an above average charm: just about ‘ugly’ enough to be on trend, but not so grotesque you have to plan an entire outfit around your trainers to make it all work. Indeed, there are slimmer models on the market, sneakers that may entice with sleeker lines and closer fits; but the Adidas Yung 1 is more than just a fling... it’s a sole mate. (Sorry, had to).
Adidas Yung 1 Colorways
So which colourway to choose? Dial up the 90s/00s sports nostalgia in hi-res orange and shock yellow or, if you’re feeling less bold, maybe try out the more refined triple-black option. Whichever version you’ve set your heart on, be sure to grab your Adidas Yung 1s from Farfetch. #dontcatchfeelscoptrainers
