Whether you’re a seasoned skier or just want to brave the city cold in style, take skiwear to the next level with our ultimate edit. From street-to-slope ski jackets and snow pants to all the technical accessories you need, find out what to pack for your next ski trip, how these pieces should fit and how to care for them below.

Cozy-cool ski jackets

An essential layer that will provide much-needed warmth, a ski jacket can also optimize your performance on the slopes. On top of fitting correctly to allow for optimum movement, look for water-repellent materials, windproof outer shells, insulation and breathable seams. Skiwear experts like Moncler Grenoble, Sease, Templa and Rossignol make best-in-class iterations that constantly push the boundaries of technology. ‘This Moncler Grenoble Monthey jacket is enhanced with PrimaLoft Gold insulation on the sides, underarms and hood,’ says FARFETCH senior menswear editor Luke Raymond. ‘The internal construction with Thermalight insulation is there to keep you warm, while water-resistant zippers keep the rain and snow at bay. On top of being optimal for snow days, the cobalt blue color with white accents ensure your look is sleek and modern.’

Size and fit: ski jackets generally fit true to size, though you may want to size up if you’re planning on wearing thick layers underneath.

Care: it is advised to gently hand wash and spot clean your ski jackets. Do not bleach, tumble dry or dry clean.

Technical ski trousers and all-in-ones

When choosing the right pair of ski trousers, look for a fine balance of technical elements and standout style details. ‘You have to ensure the pants, bib, snow suit or all-in-one you go for allows for full range of movement,’ says Raymond. ‘But once that’s nailed, don’t hesitate to go for bright colors or bold prints depending on your preferred style. Take these ski pants from Australian brand Templa, for instance; they feature a RECCO avalanche rescue system, are highly abrasion-resistant and waterproof, while also working hard for your look thanks to their seasonal dark splatter print.’

Size and fit: ski pants generally fit true to size. They also usually feature straps at the waist and hem so you can adjust to your preference.

Care: you can wash your ski pants in the washing machine but you should separate them from your normal laundry and use specialist waterproof fabric detergent. Make sure you zip up and close all the fastenings to avoid snagging or tearing.

Hard-working snow boots

They’re an essential for the slopes, but snow boots are also trending on the streets and on social feeds — particularly the 1970s classic Moon Boot. ‘Moon Boot has been an après-ski favorite since 1969,’ says Raymond. ‘Founded by Giancarlo Zanatta as part of the Tecnica Group in Giavera del Montello, Italy, it’s an instantly recognizable style inspired by the designs worn by astronauts. Its trademark lacing comes in a wide array of colorways, from khaki green and black to bright red, cobalt blue and silver. It comes in knee and ankle-high options so everyone can find their perfect style.’ For those looking for something less statement, Diemme is inspired by the heritage of hiking boots that have been made for centuries in the spectacular Dolomite mountains — look to the Italian brand for a more classic, chunky snow look.

Size and fit: Moon Boots run a little smaller than traditional shoe scales so the brand recommends sizing up. The foam lining molds to the shape of your foot but the padding is bigger than the boot itself — this will feel snug at first but begin to relax after just a few hours of wear.

Care: Use a soft, dry brush to remove dirt. Use a soft, damp cloth, mild detergent and water to remove marks. Use a soft brush, mild detergent and water to brush the midsole and outsole. Moon Boots laces are for aesthetic purposes only and should not be tightened or taken off.

Essential ski base layers

More than indispensable for keeping warm, under layers can also show off your personality in an après-ski setting. ‘A ski institution since 1932, Bogner is a great place to start when building your ski wardrobe,’ says Raymond. ‘Breathable and quick-drying, the German brand’s first-layer tops are crafted from functional fabric made of lightweight power stretch for optimum freedom of movement, whether on the slopes or taking part in any other sport. The color-block design here will also work great as you relax from your efforts.’ British brand Burton also offers similar levels of functionality and style.

Size and fit: under layers generally fit true to size. They are usually designed to be tight fitting but in a stretch fabric so you don't feel constricted.

Care: Wash in the washing machine at 30 with mild detergent and no fabric softener.

Stylish ski accessories

Between helmets, goggles and gloves, there are lots of added protection to consider with accessories — and these also offer myriad opportunities to add flair to your slope-ready looks. ‘Statement dressers will love Gucci’s bold goggles — which can be worn at the ski station or in the city — or Off-White’s colorful take,’ says Raymond. ‘For the purists, look to brands like KASK and POC Sports, who provide best-in-class helmets and protective gear.’

Size and fit: follow the safety instructions for your ski helmet and goggles to ensure a safe close fit around the head.

Care: store your ski accessories in their original dust bags to protect between seasons.
