Overshadowed in its namesake year by Nike’s alternative silhouettes (notably the Air Max 97 and the Air Max Plus, commonly known as Nike TNs), the Air Max 98 has made a triumphant return 20 years later — like a once failed X-Factor auditionee whose comeback saw their star quality finally win over the public. And like any successful returning contender, the Air Max 98 has had a makeover — complete with an unusual source of inspiration: the Sprite can.
1. Could you wear these on a date?
The Air Max 98 is an ideal choice for a first date: they hint that you have character without being flamboyant. Additionally, their eye-catching appearance makes a great icebreaker.
2. Could you wear them to the office?
Don’t attempt to pull off Nike Air Max 98 Sprites with a suit, these sneakers simply weren’t made for corporate dress codes. However, for those of us who aren’t restricted by office dress codes, why the hell not?
3. Could I wear them on a gap year travelling around Thailand?
Yes, but please don’t ruin their potential by wearing with hippy elephant trousers. The full-length air unit makes the sneaker super comfortable whilst its durable materials feel sturdy on the foot and easy to keep clean. A great alternative to the gap year favourite, biblical leather sandals; just make sure you lock them away in your hostel safe.
