Sunday Scroll: Men's Blue Face Watch Trend

Share

WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS

Generally, when you’re looking at your watch, you’re probably frowning. You’re late to a meeting, you’re impatiently waiting for your Uber, or you’ve realised it’s 3 am and you’re still in a Youtube black hole.

So we have a theory. We know that blue is psychologically associated with tranquillity. So having a blue dial on your watch will keep you calm, and help you keep things in perspective. Like we said, it’s only a theory. But it makes sense to us. Here are our favourite styles:

Versace Shadov Watch

All eyes are back on Versace. In recent seasons they’ve returned to their heritage, to ensure that, once again, we’re all bedecked in bold baroque, metallics and clashing colours.

The Shadov watch, in its alluring midnight blue hue, combines the daring aesthetics that are synonymous with the brand, with one of the biggest trends of the season: snakeskin. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Versace without a bit of bling: in this case, gold-tone studs and the iconic Medusa Head.

Girard-Perregaux Laureato Watch

The blue-dial pink gold Girard-Perregaux Laureato watch — which features the brand’s quintessential Clou de Paris patterning — is a Louvre-worthy work of art. And that’s without even considering the main attraction: the watch’s exposed back. The skeleton rear of the Swiss watch flaunts its 218 components, 27 jewels and Côtes de Genève finish. A sleek wrist piece to be worn like a trophy.

Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Watch

A square watch is more than just an accessory - it’s a symbol of authority and a reflection of its owner: sharp, straight-talking and easy on the eye. A watch like this is best suited to those harsh but fair born leaders who always mean business.

But which one should you choose? Of course, you should go for the triple threat: an on-trend, blue dial, square-faced Tag Heuer watch. Titled the Monaco Calibre 11 (even the name prompts ‘ooooo’ ‘aaaaaah’ reactions), nothing says ‘I know my watches as well as I know my liquor’ like this chronograph masterpiece.

Bell & Ross Blue Steel Watch

If you just read the name ‘Blue Steel’ and your mind immediately went to Zoolander, well, I hear you. It’s apt, then, that this is a watch that’s really, really, ridiculously good looking. Made in Switzerland, with a sapphire crystal face embedded in a satin-polished steel square case and navy alligator leather strap, is there really more to life than this Bell & Ross creation? Just like Hansel, it’s so hot right now.

Gucci GG2570 watch

No one likes a show-off. Gucci’s subtle, sophisticated take on the blue-dial watch is low-key enough to wear anywhere. Think of it as your very own secret sauce: it’ll elevate pretty much anything you wear it with.
