A copy of The Who’s Quadrophenia

Why: The mods have made yet another fashion comeback and this landmark album is the definitive soundtrack of the sharp-suited Sixties sub-culture.

Who’s doing it: Christopher Kane, Damir Doma, Z Zegna

An oversized overnight bag

Why: When it comes to accessories for AW14, the official line is that bigger is better. You don’t actually need to be going away to use this bag, just use it to make a sartorial statement.

Who’s doing it: Lanvin, Bottega Veneta, Salvatore Ferragamo

Chunky White Trainers

Why: Urban luxe is the way 21st century men do smart casual and pulling this off requires footwear of the box fresh variety.

Who’s doing it: Lanvin, Givenchy, Valentino

Twin Peaks Box Set

Why: For conversational purposes it’s always worth brushing up on the work of master auteur David Lynch, and this season is the final in Kenzo’s triology inspired by the director.

Who’s doing it: Kenzo - obviously.

Hair Wax

Why: When it comes to grooming, the artfully dishevelled hair-do of the Nineties is the hottest look on the catwalk and old school wax the ultimate tool in achieving the look.

Who’s doing it: Lanvin, Raf Simons, Maison Martin Margiela

Why: Not for your floors, for your clothes! We’d never have guessed that home furnishings would work quite so well in our wardrobe but unusual textures are a big story for AW14.

Who’s doing it: Burberry Prorsum, Etro, J.W. Anderson

A ruler

Why: To make sure your trousers are suitably wide enough, this is a season in which silhouettes are going to the extreme.

Who’s doing it: Acne Studios, Givenchy, Haider Ackermann

Why: Because word-play looks set to have a stellar season, with designers rushing to spell out everything from slogans to philosophies on their key pieces.

Who’s doing it: MSGM, No 21, A.P.C
