Ultra fashion-forward Antwerp boutique RA have a knack of hunting out the industry’s most visual arresting labels, so when co-owner and buyer Romain Brau started raving about this season’s offerings from Juun. J, we knew they had to be worth a look.

A progressive label revered within fashion’s inner circle but little known outside of it, one time Club Monaco designer Jung Wook Jun founded Juun J in 2007. Since then, the South Korean has seen his label collaborate with Reebok, win the Samung Fashion Design Fund and upgrade to showing his collections in Paris.

Juun. J takes a directional and contemporary approach to tailoring in the manner of Raf Simons’ menswear, but one with a subtle yet distinct military, utilitarian flavour, due in part to the designer’s participation in his country’s compulsory national service scheme.

Favouring a largely black, grey and white palette, Jun’s pieces revel in the luxurious (well, what else would you expect from a man who claims to carry Diptyque candles with him wherever he goes), taking elements of Asian heritage design and modernising them by adding in the occasional splash of something slick like neoprene or fur.

‘Sportier than usual. Minimal, practical, sporty’ is how Jun describes the collection, but Brau is more emphatic, explaining ‘It can be really easy to look stupid in the cold, snowy weather, but thanks to Junn j you can be the talk of the slopes. This season, his menswear collection (which also works on women!) will stop you shivering but will help you do so in style!’
Composed of sharp blazers and polo-necks, all clean lines and meticulous attention to detail, we’re inclined to disagree – this collection shouldn’t be confined to the snow – we think it deserves a place in your full-time Winter wardrobe…
