As one of the world’s most influential streetwear titles, Highsnobiety has steadily amassed a global community of sneaker enthusiasts. Unsurprisingly, they have a lot of opinions about what constitutes good footwear. Here, three friends of the site lend their expertise on the best pairs available right now. From the world's rarest sneakers to the latest cult styles, Joyce Mao, Anaa Saber and Oumayma El Boumeshouli edit their favourites below.
‘For me, sneakers are about being part of a culture. I first got into them when I started playing indoor football – they were the only way to make your kit look good. My first pair were some New Balance 500s when I was in elementary school. I love how they came back around a couple of years ago. Currently, I’m obsessed with the Bump’Air Flame sneakers by Shoes 53045, from the guy who designed the Triple S.’ In shot: Oumayma wears sneakers by Off-White.
‘My first pair of sneakers was the low-top Air Force 1s. Now, I have three pairs of white Air Forces in my shoe closet that I keep on rotation. In summer I wear them with cycling shorts and an oversized vintage T-shirt. In the colder months in New York, I wear them with wide-leg jeans, and sometimes with dresses too – I get a lot of inspiration from Nineties fashion.’ In shot: Joyce wears sneakers by Maison Margiela.
‘Growing up, I had two older brothers who were big into basketball, and anything they did I had to be a part of. I think that’s where my love of sneakers comes from. But trainers don't always have to go with basketball shorts and a white tee. My collection started with Von Dutch and Baby Phat – I remember having the all-pink Baby Phat flip-phone encrusted with a rhinestone logo to match my kicks!’ In shot: Anaa wears sneakers by Prada.
