CITY STORIES / Paris
You think you know Paris: classic elegance and a refined sensibility. But there's a playful side, too – especially when it comes to accessories. Three inhabitants show us the other side of the city, and how it influences their looks. See their SS19 edits, below. Photography by Valentin Fabre.
Leia Sfez, creative director
‘I’ve lived in the 17th and 19th arrondissements – South Pigalle, where I took this picture; I love the artistic atmosphere that emerges from this neighborhood. There is a cliché of the typical Parisian: the beret, the baguette under the arm. But every Parisian has their own style, and it is precisely this difference that makes the city very inspiring. For me, less is more, but I love to add stronger pieces to my outfits.’ In shot: Leia wears wallet by Burberry.
Moon Kyu Lee, art director
‘I was born in Seoul, but I’ve lived in Paris for 10 years. I live in the 10th – these pictures were taken at the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, which is my favourite place in the neighbourhood. Paris is not a kind city; the people are very direct, even rude. But they never pretend. And when you get to know them, they are very warm. I suppose it’s a little like my cat.’ In shot: Moon Kyu wears earrings by Y/Project.
Emma Rowen Rose, designer and creative director
‘I’m born and raised in Paris, though I come from a mix of Polish and Spanish parents. There are even more misconceptions about Parisians and about Paris itself – people tend to think we are not friendly, or even that we’re snobbish. But we are sweet, really! I do think that Parisians care about always being ready, though. It’s all about that mythical nonchalance…’. In shot: Emma wears hat by Gucci.
