Words by Ashleigh Gribbon
Autumn has officially arrived, and with this change in seasons comes a month brimming with new films, art and entertainment to satisfy all cultural cravings. So get out and be seen in the pieces to reinvent your wardrobe – with help from our definitive guide to September’s fashion and fixtures.
Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa is to house the largest collection of 21st-century art from the region. Travel tip: the multi-faceted glass windows of the above Silo hotel make it a must-stay for design lovers, too. Celebrate all things artistic and the building’s industrial heritage from 22nd September.
What to wear: Mirror the upbeat energy of South Africa’s capital with a fun, vibrant travel edit. Pack a flourish of florals from Etro and Valentino in your suitcase.
Denim in its entirety is having a moment, but we’re especially backing the new-wave creations. From Lærke Andersen to Y/Project, designers are bringing fresh perspectives to fashion’s most hard-wearing fabric.
What to wear: Go big with outerwear – layer on Lærke Andersen’s Tech jacket for a borrowed-from-the-boys take.
Cosmic Journey, LA
Looking for a last summer hurrah? On 24th September, head to the Hollywood Bowl for Cosmic Journey. Curated by the ever-stylistic Solange, the heady line-up of genre-defying artists (like Dev Hynes’ Blood Orange) will be sure to leave you starry eyed.
What to wear: A stellar collective like this warrants a look that follows suit. Embrace AW17’s cool, carefree attitude with a slogan tee and deconstructed tailoring.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle
In the sequel to the 2015 hit, Taron Egerton’s Eggsy and his immaculately suited fellow agents travel Stateside to meet up with their American counterparts. But how will they explain Colin Firth’s not-so-secret return? Out 29th September.
What to wear: Smart dressing doesn’t have to play by the rules: experiment with proportion, unconventional cuts and lavish fabrics.
London Design Festival
From 16th to 24th September, the 15th annual London Design Festival takes up residence across the capital to celebrate the innovative works of independent designers and established brands alike.
What to wear: There’s one Italian brand mastering art-school cool this season: No21. Think sartorial tailoring spiced up with Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s pioneering playfulness.
