Tour the globe’s trailblazing boutiques from Mumbai to Mykonos

Words by Ashleigh Gribbon

From style-savvy fashion capitals to quaint but cool towns off the beaten track – you can definitely say our boutique partners carve quite the well-travelled sartorial portfolio. Looking to scope out a fashion hub somewhere a little further afield? Luckily we’re taking a trip to our coolest destination boutiques…

Le Mill, Mumbai

A former thirties rice mill transformed into an airy concept store (complete with heirloom-worthy décor), Le Mill is home to both cutting-edge international labels and the coolest names in Indian fashion. Founders Cecilia Morelli Parikh and Julie Leymarie tell us about Mumbai’s ever-evolving aesthetic and why colour is always king in the city.

Describe Le Mill’s aesthetic in 3 words?
‘Colour, crafted and architectural.’

What criteria should a brand meet for you to buy them for the store?
‘We don’t like to create genre corners. We want to make sure that we’re speaking to lots of different women. Indian women have fun with their fashion and don’t take themselves [too] seriously.’

What are the labels we should be looking out for in AW17?
‘We are a big fan of Rosetta Getty and super excited to have her at Le Mill. Another great brand is Attico, in particular their velvet wrap dresses. And then because we live in the land of colour, we want to seriously buy into the strong red trend – so almost anything in red!’

Luisa Beach, Mykonos

Famed for its brilliant white villas and mesmeric ocean views, the Greek island of Mykonos is a natural choice for Luisa World’s new beachside boutique – complete with earthy marble and bohemian interior details. The store’s Anastasia Tsourekas is on hand to chat about that emerging label/big-name brand mix, and appealing to Mykonos’s cool, avant-garde crowd.

What made you decide on Mykonos for your boutique’s location?
‘We fell in love with the creativity of Nammos and always thought that a Luisa World store would complement the vision of the spot as a one-stop destination. The crystal-blue water of Psarou beach and the fascinating cuisine was the perfect combination for a luxury shopping [destination].’

Describe Luisa Beach’s aesthetic in 3 words?
‘Minimal (in design), fun (in mood), plural (in merchandise).’

What are the labels we should be looking out for in AW17?
‘Gucci, Off-White, Saint Laurent and Fendi.’

onefifteen, Taipei

On a quiet road in a spacious antiqued building, is One Fifteen: a cutting-edge greenhouse carrying the creative works of new and young designers alike. This spirited space has become the benchmark for luxury fashion in Taipei – and a tranquil haven to enjoy fresh Mediterranean cuisine, too. We had the store’s Perry Kuo share all about city’s cool East-meets-West fusion, and the new-season pieces to invest in.

Describe One Fifteen’s aesthetic in 3 words?
‘Vital, artistic and timeless.’

What's everyone wearing in Taipei?
‘With sunny days coming back, oversized or off-shoulder striped shirts are [big] in Taipei [right now].’

The pieces we should be investing in for AW17?
‘An asymmetric skirt from J.W. Anderson, a [colourful] Delpozo sweater and some tailored trousers from Kolor are all [essential] for the new season.’
