The bad news? Less sunlight, looming temperature drops means peak hibernation season is nearing. The good news? It’s also the best time (and excuse) to reignite your love for outerwear. And this season’s heavy hitters are far too good to be cooped up inside. Here are 5 of the best AW18 trends to see you through the hard times this winter.
XL Puffer Jackets
Even roomier, extra layers: AW18’s puffer jackets laugh in the face of sub-zero temperatures. Your style references: Burberry, Balenciaga and Maison Margiela know the drill. Go big, basically.
The Hybrid
Heritage tweed or colourful stripes? Trench or wrap coat? Yes, this season’s hybrid coats prove a split personality isn’t always a bad thing (good job for us Geminis). When it comes to outerwear, the motto to live by for AW18 is two are better than one.
Rodeo
Whether it’s head-to-toe denim or overt fringing, we’ve gone big (too big?) for rodeo of late. AW18’s finishings, however, are more on the subtle side of things; sharp collars, hand-embroidery and dark chocolate suede are your calling card – just ask Isabel Marant.
Snake Effect
It’s the season (not the year) of the snake. Less discreet than its zodiac counterpart, the print’s cropping up with seismic force right now. You’ll find middle ground courtesy of softer silhouettes and a paired-back colour palette, if that’s your thing.
Neon Prints
Wallflowers, avert your eyes. Neon, post-apocalyptic hues are having a moment (Prada, we’re looking at you), and they’re not for the faint-hearted. Follow the lead of Kim K and Slick Woods in all over highlighter.
