WORDS BY JOSEPH FURNESS
Vogue’s Julie Pelipas — who seems the type of ‘in-control-of-her-life’ woman who eats homemade granola after returning home from a productive morning run — is actually effortless in every way. The fashion director is an unrivalled equation of modelesque looks, intimidatingly high stature (in both senses of the phrase), and faultless style. And she makes it all look so easy.
Colombia-born, Miami-raised and Ibiza-regular Esteban Cortazar (a young, fun-loving designer with a surprisingly mature take on womenswear), creates fashion that is perpetually feminine and refined — just like Pelipas’ approach to attire. The creative uses his worldly experiences to inspire new collections, and these personal touches, found within each of his seasons, are what sets him apart from the rest.
Geographically speaking, the twosome may be at opposite ends of the world from each other, but mentally speaking, they ride the same wavelength. A shared affinity for classic styles presented with a twist is what’s at the basis of their relationship, both choosing to sidestep fad ideas of fashion.
