WORDS BY AMELIA BELL
Swimwear’s had a shake-up. No rules, no trends, just a whole lot to feel good about: motifs to put a smile on your face, subtly improved shapes and heaps of bright colour. In short, they’re the ultimate upper. Here’s the names we’re loving now.
Designers Carl Cunow and Nathan Romano love to travel; it’s how they came to create their swimwear label Onia (meaning ‘sailboat’ in hebrew). Naturally, their fun-loving prints featuring red-hot chilli peppers and kiwi-splashed swimsuits are perfect for the girl who loves adventure. They’re that little reminder not to take life too seriously.
One of many reasons why we’ve fallen for this Scandi favourite, Ganni’s distinctive prints strike the perfect balance between girly and quirky. Thankfully, it’s meant a fashion reboot for swimwear too. For AW18, your favourite Ganni prints are reimagined as beachwear: high-waisted leopard print bikinis, halter-neck floral swimsuits and polka-dot separates. Result.
Solid & Striped
Isaac Ross’ insta-famous label Solid & Striped has amassed a global following thanks to its myriad bikinis - each one so vibrant they’ll put a smile on your face come rain or shine. For the creative girl who loves to mix up colour, this one’s just for you.
Each of the bikinis from Scandi label Sian Swimwear are named after women who inspire its founder, Sian Jones. ‘It’s all about injecting personality into the designs’, says Sian. ‘The Roja represents the simplistic style of an old friend; while the Zena captures another’s fun loving spirit.’ Plus the pieces combine fit and function for every body shape, in a rainbow of hues. That’s some serious girl power.
Mara Hoffman embodies every sense of the phrase feel-good. From its commitment to sustainability to celebrating female empowerment, the New-York based label is doing their bit towards a more mindful, environmentally friendly future. Expect quirky geometric prints and a colour palette of powdery blues, purple and primary yellow. It’s a win-win if you ask us.
