WORDS BY AMELIA BELL
In case you hadn’t heard, hair accessories are this season’s catnip. From Gucci’s crystal-logoed hair claws to giant girl band bows by Parisian millinery Maison Michel, AW18 is set to be a throwback to 90s high-school nostalgia. Here’s a round-up of the best hair accessories we’ve seen...
In the words of well-coiffed soul singer Jill Scott, hair is jewellery. Designed to add an artistic finish to your do, French jeweller Charlotte Chesnais’ sculptural hair clips draw from the work of artists including Constantin Brancusi and Alberto Giacometti.
Gucci is taking us back to the good old days, but with that classic Michele spin - tongue-in-cheek headbands inspired by old-school hip hop and the most unlikely of grandma-style hair combs (branded with Gucci crystals, naturally).
As Gucci’s former Head of Accessories, it’s no surprise that the brand’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele has brought an accessory remix to the fore. Enter the new head scarf: rich colour palette, the famous garden prints - it literally has Gucci written all over it.
For a new twist on a classic hair accessory, take a simple headband and embellish like there’s no tomorrow. Miu Miu and Rosantica are dressing theirs up with gobstopper pearls and giant jewels for a bold result - less practical headband, more regal crowning glory.
Slouchy bows bestow an eternal sense of girlishness - you can’t deny their charm. For the coming season, bows are best served with polka dots a la Maison Michel; or in electric colourways courtesy of Gucci.
