Can you feel it? Summer holidays are coming to an end. Which means the pre term-time rituals have begun: haircuts, earlier bedtimes, new clothes. And, of course, a well-chosen back-to-school bag. So we sought the expert advice of four young school-goers (and their moms) to find out what their thoughts are on this season's best school backpacks.

What are your top tips for back to school shopping?
I like to involve Vada in our back to school shopping. This year we made a list together of everything she would need. She loves being involved and it made it more fun for the both of us!
What’s Vada’s favorite outfit to wear to school?
Vada loves to dress comfortably at school so that she can play hard. She loves to wear pops of color and bold prints.

Taking it in a fruity direction, Lucia was inspired by her love of watermelon and the fact that her bag “is so different from everyone else’s.” And what will she be putting in her new miniature backpack? “My crayons!”

What are your favorite children’s brands?
Bobo Choses. They're fun and playful, and full of graphic elements! It's reminiscent of a whimsy-filled childhood.
What are your top tips for back to school shopping?
Do it alone. My daughter dresses herself every morning. If it were up to her, she'd be wearing tulle dresses and princess slippers every day. But she's also the kind to get dirty in the sandbox, run through the playground searching for ladybugs and swing on the monkey bars. Her wardrobe needs to live up to all that activity!
What’s Lucia's favorite outfit to wear to school?
She loves a layered and print-mixing look. She'll emerge from her bedroom wearing a floral cut-out shoulder dress under a floral tank dress and striped leggings.

Landon isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd with his style “no one else will have a monster face on their backpack with cool eyes.” His Fendi Monster Eyes backpack will be holding “comic books, homework and my dollars” but most importantly his school buddies will “think it’s so cool and they’ll be asking their mamma’s for one too!”

Who are your favorite kidswear brands?
It’s hard to find colorful and stylish boys’ apparel so I love Bobo Choses, Tiny Cottons and Nununu. Our boys live in Adidas Kids and when we want to make a statement our top choices are Fendi Kids and Gucci Kids. We don’t have a daughter (yet) but I love Sophia Webster Mini.
What are your top tips for back to school shopping?
I think the trick to back to school shopping is to go for high/low fashion and to size up when you can. The baggy look is really cute and your kids can wear pieces longer. I tend to splurge on sweaters, jackets and a few quality tees.
What’s Landon's favorite outfit to wear to school?
Landon loves anything camouflage right now and tops and bottoms that match. He also loves sweatpants because they’re so stretchy and feel less restrictive than jeans. His favorite sneakers right now are Pharrell Williams x Adidas, they’re so light and easy to run around in.

Who are your favorite kidswear brands?
Moncler has great classic pieces I can buy for all three of my kids. Stella McCartney has great girl choices I like to incorporate into Lotus’ day to day looks.
What are your top tips for back to school shopping?
Let your kids choose one item and you work around that. It’s always nice to let them feel empowered by choices.
What’s Lotus's favorite outfit to wear to school?
My daughter loves wearing pink dresses. It’s her thing. My son, Czar, loves a classic tee and sweatpants combo.
