TIME TO DRESS UP AGAIN
As fashion moves into a new, post-lockdown state, rediscover the joy of dressing up every day — because why not? From strong colors to high-shine accessories, we edit the pre-fall collections to bring you our curation of the season’s best. Here, Browns’ buying director, Ida Petersson, shares her thoughts on 2021’s new mood.
‘It’s been a real pleasure to see people embracing their freedom and expressing this new-found happiness through the way they dress. We’re seeing more colors and a bit of dressing up, but also a nod in many cases to comfort — be that in their choice of footwear, or in the materials and shapes they’re choosing. For example, we’re seeing women embracing boxy short suits and men going for loose satin shirts in wild prints.’
‘Personally, I’m revelling in feeling inspired again, and watching people’s personalities come through in their way of dressing day-to-day. I recently attended an event with some female entrepreneurs — seeing these women dressed up, enjoying themselves, having real-life conversations and networking gave me a buzz that I was still feeling the next morning. I think we will find that some people’s personal style may well have changed during lockdown, and we’ll see people experimenting and finding who they are again, both socially and in the way they dress.’
Collections shaped by signatures
‘Constraints on the production side have meant that designers really had to self-reflect, go back to basics, and consider what they’re best known for — thus scaling back collections. I think the result of this produced the best version of themselves and their art, with each of the designers really having to dig deep [to create their new collections].’
