As an art critic and writer, Antwaun Sargent’s references are as thoughtful as you’d expect. ‘A huge source of inspiration for me is the late painter Barkley Hendricks,’ he explains. ‘His canvases depicted some of the most beautiful and stylish people of the last several decades.’ Since moving to New York from Chicago eight years ago, Antwaun (aka Sir Sargent) has written for titles including W Magazine and The New York Times – and his proudest achievement thus far is his writing about black artists. ‘I think, taken together, it creates a picture of the society we live in,’ he reflects. Here, Antwaun shows his edit of the best sustainable and vintage designers. ‘I can certainly do better,’ he says, ‘but it’s important to me that my generation try to leave the planet better off than how we inherited it.’ In shot: Antwaun wears jacket by Bode.
