Despite what you’ve seen in style magazines, there’s more to Moscow than subversive streetwear. We speak to two locals, who share their take on how Russians dress now and their favourite places in the city. Photography by Masha Demianova.
‘I’ve lived in Moscow my entire life, and now live in Zamoskvorechye by the Moscow river. Moscow style is very eclectic – I like to ride around on the metro to see the combinations of styles people wear. I grew up with skate culture on one side, and anime and ‘FRUiTS’ magazine on the other. I like combining artsy items from the catwalk with things I found in a secondhand store, or borrowed from my friends.’
‘I was born in Moscow and I’ve always lived here. I’m drawn to its abandoned places – Cold War bunkers and high rooftops. The style here is a mixture of everything. I think it’s too big to have one style, it’s like a huge train terminal where things change every second. I like that energy, it feels young.’
