fashion stylist

What’s great about styling men?
‘I like to style men because they’re open to my experiments – you can put 20 jackets on one guy and it still looks cool and modern!’

What’s inspiring you right now, what are you obsessing over?
‘A full leather look by Helmut Lang from the early noughties.’

What do you have on repeat on Spotify?
‘Kylie Minogue’s album Fever. Great energy!’

As a woman, what’s the key to wearing menswear well?
‘I think balance is important. If a woman is wearing menswear piece it’s important to mix it with something very feminine.’

What’s your worst thing that men wear?
‘Bermuda cargo shorts! Hate.’

If you could time travel, where would you go?
‘I was the biggest fan of Edie Sedgwick. I’m still in love with the sixties: I would love to live in this period and to be a Factory girl!’

Sherry Shen,
Elle Men China deputy fashion director

What’s great about styling men?
‘As a women, I can offer some practical advice on the details that make a man look more attractive to females!’

What’s inspiring you right now, what are you obsessing over?
‘Currently I’m totally in love with the sketches by Korean art instructor Kim Jung Gi. His incredible live drawing is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.’

What film or TV programme did you last watch that you loved?
‘A documentary film, Visages Villages. It’s the legendary French director Agnès Varda’s most recent feature.’

Who’s your favourite character at the moment?
‘Tilda Swinton’s Orlando is one of my all-time favorites.’

As a woman, what’s the key to wearing menswear well?
‘There is a movement toward clothes not being segregated by gender, but rather by colour or size or shape. So I think the most important thing is no matter what you’re wearing it should make people say “This is so chic!” not “Are you a man or a woman?”’

Anna Pesonen,
fashion stylist

What’s inspiring you right now, what are you obsessing over?
‘I’m inspired by women in general. And tights. And James Baldwin.’

What’s the last thing you Googled?
‘A menu of a Korean restaurant.’

What are you listening to at the moment?
‘Finnish alt-rock band Downstairs, Ethiopian jazz and Vince Staples.’

What do you love to see guys wearing?
‘Usually I’m into strong personal style, which is authentic… And there’s an element of something out of the ordinary whether it’s the hairstyle or how they’re wearing it. But I like a T-shirt, hoodie and jeans. Anything Takahiro Miyashita and Jun Takahashi has designed looks great.’

And what’s your worst thing that men wear?
‘Anything that’s trying too hard.’

Julie Ragolia,
fashion stylist

What’s great about styling men?
‘Menswear is all about precision, and I love tailored clothing as a discipline. It’s inspiring and exciting to create diverse and interesting stories from this level of exactitude.’

What’s inspiring you right now, what are you obsessing over?
‘I’m obsessing over the artwork of Donna Huanca, an amazing American female artist now living in Berlin.’

What’s the last thing you Googled?
‘Why the number 47 is the most commonly used random number.’

As a woman, what’s the key to wearing menswear well?
‘A good tailor. I wear men’s clothing from brands like Dries Van Noten, Ermenegildo Zegna couture, Comme des Garçons, etc, all the time… and I’m quite petite. But a precise and dedicated tailor can be a gal’s best friend.’

And what’s your worst thing that men wear?
‘Football shirts. I love the sport and watch somewhat devotedly when I have the time, but I never like seeing team spirit as day-to-day streetwear.’

Who or what is your weirdest obsession?
‘The scrunch ratio of a person’s socks. I weirdly pay a lot of attention to this, on myself and on random strangers. And as a stylist, I will literally spend several minutes to sculpt a sock. I don’t think that’s weird though
