THE DAILY / Zaina Miuccia wears Burberry Monogram

‘I’m really obsessed with Film Noir,’ says the artist, model and actor Zaina Miuccia. ‘I love the glamour of it. Barbara Stanwick and other 1940s and 1950s stars have influenced me a lot.’ And for Zaina, who resides in west London’s Notting Hill, the art of performance is all-encompassing. ‘I love that Tilda Swinton doesn’t call herself an actress – she calls herself a performer. My goal is to perform, which inevitably means to entertain.’ Here, Zaina – along with a group of other tastemakers – puts her own spin on the brand’s latest capsule collection of pieces, reimagined in a monogram designed in collaboration with graphic designer Peter Saville. ‘Home to me is Lagos, Nigeria, definitely – that’s where my dad is from, and my mum’s from the north.

It’s Nigeria, but it’s also London. Home is where I feel good. I’ve spent most of my adult life here in London, going back and forth between Nigeria and Atlanta, and I was born in Washington, DC. Being a Londoner to me means seeing no differences. It’s meeting all sorts of people from all over the world, all in one place. It’s a very special place. Paris can be home for me, too; I spent three years living there in the French countryside. I’ve always sort of had a surf-girl thing going on, which started on a trip to Brazil. I wear a lot of cowry shells, which people wear a lot in Nigeria. I love Fela Kuti’s wives from the Kalakuta Republic – they always wear a lot of shells and beads. My mum’s influenced me a lot style-wise, too. She was one of the first people to have dreads in Nigeria and she wears these amazing hats and headpieces.’
