The very best things to do, see and wear

August is shaping up to be one of the hottest months this year...and not just when it comes to the weather. And culturally and sartorially speaking, it’s our hand-picked selection that is really heating up!

Wear
Slogan Sweatshirts

From statement-making soundtracks to politically-charged messaging, AW17 is all about sartorial empowerment.

What to wear: Look for transitional layers that have something to say… Such as this sweatshirt from Valentino’s latest collection, which makes reference to English artist Jamie Reid’s work.

Experience
Afropunk Festival, New York

With an audience as diverse as its eclectic line-up, Brooklyn’s annual Afropunk celebration is a vivid interpretation of individuality and self expression. It returns to Commodore Barry Park on 26th-27th August, and with new dates in Paris, London and Johannesburg, the good vibes are going global.

What to wear: This free-spirited music hub is the place to up the ante on expected festival attire; look to statement accessories, teamed with modern low-key tailoring.

Dine
Magpie, London

New from the founders of Michelin-starred restaurant Pidgin, Magpie serves up a modern British menu straight from a trolley (mirroring traditional dim sum-style service). A fun and novel approach to current fine dining, opening 25th July.

What to wear: Synonymous with slick suiting, London is the city to dress like a gent. Give the classic two-piece a casual update and offset khaki tailoring with tonal knitwear. Then swap the oxford shirt for a pristine white tee.

Listen
A Fever Dream by Everything Everything

Mancunian band Everything Everything’s 4th album builds on its signature indie-rock sound, released 18th August. An auditory treat with a blend of melodic bass and new-wave guitars, we especially love lead single single Can’t Do.

What to wear: Reflect this pared-back, indie-rock soundtrack with a low-key athleisure look, say by pairing slim-fitting track pants with simplistic tailoring à la Parisian favourite AMI Alexandre Mattiussi.

See
Sunshower, Tokyo

This, the largest ever exhibition of Southeast Asian contemporary art, is held in the National Art Center in Tokyo and explores art from the eighties onwards. Making reference to growth, faith and tradition in a truly dynamic and diverse culture, check it out from 5th July to 23rd October.

What to wear: Turn to creative Asian designers as a nod to the region’s forward-thinking fashion. We’re ranking Kolor, Sacai and Issey Miyake’s collections among this season’s finest.
