La Californienne
Husband and wife team Courtney Ormond and Leszek Garwacki upcycle vintage Rolex and Cartier pieces, hand-painting dials and leather straps with colour-pop stripes inspired by SoCal sunsets. Their attention to detail goes beyond refurbished dials: La Californienne services each mechanical movement using its own components and refinishes every case, too. ‘Our business model is inherently sustainable,’ says Courtney. ‘We give watches a second life. Our straps are handmade with natural vegetable-tanned leather, an environmentally friendly method, as opposed to some other leathers which are chrome-tanned using harsh chemicals. We also use organic beeswax as an adhesive.’ Good On You rates La Californienne for its high-proportion use of eco-friendly materials and upcycled design methods. Image courtesy of La Californienne.
A Little Word About Good On You…
At Farfetch, we realise that the path towards better choices could be a long and challenging one. So, to help clear the way, we’ve chosen to work with Good On You, a rating system for shopping fashion and jewellery ethically that gives you the power to make informed decisions about what you buy. Good On You have done the research and spoken to the experts – the campaigners and the brands – to come up with simple ratings for how each brand impacts three key areas: people, planet and animals. The information provided by Good On You is based on publicly available sources and gets reviewed over time so, together, we aim to bring you the most up-to-date information on positive change.
