Zimmermann dresses: sizing, fit & styling guide
WORDS BY OLIVIA WOODHOUSE
Zimmermann dresses are defined by their bohemian aesthetic, artful details, free-flowing cuts and breathable fabrics — they're the kind of dress made for wearing on the beach of a far-flung island.
The brand began in Sydney, Australia, in the early 90s, when sisters Simone and Nicky Zimmermann started designing dresses in their family home and selling them at Sydney’s Paddington markets. After securing a two-page spot in an issue of Vogue Australia, the duo earned enough funds to open their first store. Today, Zimmermann is a world-renowned resortwear and swimwear label that boasts a vast following.
Five Zimmermann dresses to add to your wardrobe
Our expert merchandising team selects five styles that embody the brand’s signature design codes, from floral prints to flowing silhouettes.
Zimmermann floral-print belted dress
A delicate bow ties this billowing floral dress together. Perfect for weddings and garden parties, this piece is ideal for summer events in the heat that call for a flowing silhouette. The brand’s signature romanticism flows through the dress, from its floral print to its ballooning sleeves.
Zimmermann Luna midi dress
Boning adds structure to this ethereal summer dress, while the fit-and-flare design and sweetheart neckline offer an elegant silhouette. Pair yours with satin mules and a pastel clutch to continue the romantic theme.
Zimmermann Rebellion mini dress
Part of the brand’s 2026 Cruise collection, the Rebellion line brings together Zimmermann signatures with more structured elements. Here, rouleau buttons pull the top half of the mini dress together while the flared skirt cascades along with the removable scarf belt.
Zimmermann Awaken maxi dress
Awaken your 70s bohemian spirit with this plunging maxi dress. The relaxed silhouette means it will work just as well as a beach coverup as it will for a low-key vacation dinner. Finish the look with statement jewelry and a raffia clutch for summer-infused energy.
Zimmermann floral corset mini dress
Florals and Zimmermann go together like a cold drink on a summer’s day. This coresetted mini dress mixes a renaissance aesthetic with a flattering fit and flare silhouette to cover all bases. Accessorize with neutral pieces in keeping with the mood of your centerpiece.
How do Zimmermann dresses fit?
We spoke to five Zimmermann devotees to get their opinion on the brand’s best-loved dresses.
As we know, Zimmermann dresses come in all shapes and sizes, fits and silhouettes, but the women we spoke to all agreed that generally, the dresses are true to size.
Content creator, Nnenna Echem, says, ‘All the Zimmermann dresses I've ever tried on fit true to size; so I suggest that anyone looking to purchase one opts for their regular size.’
Lifestyle blogger, Emilia Taneva, agrees. ‘In my experience, I've always been happy with my usual size.’
However, some shoppers, like content creator Josie Fear, highlighted how the style of dress could affect the fit.
‘A loose, billowing Zimmermann dress will fit true to size, or even a little oversized, especially if it features smocking.’
She adds, ‘A Zimmermann dress featuring a tight-fitted waist (think corset-inspired dresses) is likely to fit small, so I'd recommend sizing up.’
How to style Zimmermann dresses
One of the many reasons Zimmermann is such an enduring success is the timeless nature of its designs — the ideal foundation for any wardrobe.
Senior merchandiser Charlotte Berry shares her styling tips for your next purchase:
- ‘Zimmermann dresses are widely loved for their feminine aesthetic, timeless prints and effortless versatility.’
- ‘Most often worn as occasionwear, they pair beautifully with heeled sandals or pumps, a complementary clutch and statement earrings.’
- ‘For a more relaxed, vacation-ready look, style with a raffia bag, flat sandals and a pair of sunglasses.’
