Despite what you’ve seen in style magazines, there’s more to Moscow than subversive streetwear. We speak to three locals, who share their take on how Russians dress now and their favourite places in the city. Photography by Masha Demianova.
‘The best thing about Moscow is its energy and endless possibilities: you can get any service you want here 24/7. Manicures at midnight, breakfast at 4am – there are no limits. I think a lot of people still think the city has an old-school vibe, but I think we’re actually one of the coolest capitals in the world.’
‘I’ve lived in Moscow my entire life, and I still admire its character. At the moment, I live in an area called Moskvorech’e, which is quite central. Right now, I’m obsessed with developing my photography skills, and after a long day at work the city’s new speakeasy bars are a great way to wind down.’
‘Moscow’s style is crazy. It’s a city that lives at a frantic pace and never stops – that’s why I love it here. I took these shots in a neighborhood called Severnoe Chertanovo, it was built in the late 1970s. I love the architecture and always show this place to my foreign friends. I just love Soviet architecture in general, and Moscow is full of it.’
