Dining always poses a conundrum this time of year: to detox or to comfort eat? That’s why places like the achingly cool (and Met Breuer adjacent) Flora Bar in New York are heaven sent – its fish and vegetable-focused menu strikes that perfect balance between healthy and satisfying.

What to wear:
This is one of the city’s coolest eateries and also part of a museum, so unleash your inner uptown artist. Eye-catching accessories will maketh the outfit.

So SS17 might finally be here, but that doesn’t mean the weather is ready to accept it. Ease into the new season with a fine knit that can be layered up while chills linger, then worn alone or as outerwear as the months (and the sunshine) progress. A true wardrobe hero.

What to wear:
Opt for classic, muted colours so you can wear the knit with everything you own. Stripes will add some detail, without sacrificing versatility.

Inject some fun into drab winter by experiencing this all-singing, all-dancing technicolor cinematic love letter to Old Hollywood from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, it also happens to be the Oscar front-runner – extra cultural brownie points.

What to wear:
Ryan Gosling has long been a one-man lesson in style: learn to emulate his louche, laid-back swagger and all you’ll need to shine is a simple white shirt and dark suit.

The third album from the Mercury Prize-winning trio drops 13th January, and fans of the British band’s alternatively blissed-out and moody electro can also snap up tickets for the record’s accompanying tour, starting in Sweden on 8th February and moving through Europe before hitting the festival circuit in South America.

What to wear:
The band themselves are rather fond of sporting top-to-toe black – it suits the dark, dreamy quality of their music and always looks sleek, so who are we to argue?

This year, Chinese New Year falls on 28th January, and in grand tradition the nation’s capital will be ringing in the Year of the Rooster the night before, with a dazzling firework display – a visual feast unlike any other. Don’t forget to follow it up with jiaozi dumplings, to signify prosperity.

What to wear:
Red is the colour to be seen in. It represents fortune, happiness and vitality, and scares away evil spirits. But absolutely no monochrome – black and white are unlucky.
