CITY STORIES / Sydney

There’s more to the Australian surfing spot than board shorts: residents of Sydney favour a streamlined and sophisticated approach to getting dressed. Here, three women share their favourite hangouts and offer their take on the new season.

Filomena Natoli, make-up artist

‘Sydney means home to me. It is a fantastic city to live, work and raise a family in – we have a great lifestyle here. It’s laidback and cosmopolitan, with the beach as an integral part of life and style. One of my favourite eateries in Sydney is 10 William Street, Paddington. It’s a chic and cosy italian establishment. For swimmers, any of these magical spots – Milk Beach, Camp Cove and Kutti Beach – are musts for the mind, body and soul.’ In shot: Filomena wears blazer and jeans, both by Balenciaga; body by Acne Studios; boots by Calvin Klein 205W39NYC; and bag by Loewe.

Christelle Scifo, art director

‘I was born in Sydney and have lived here on and off my whole life. Here, I’m at The Art Gallery of New South Wales. I love it for its surroundings, nestled into Sydney's beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens on the harbour’s foreshore. The gallery and gardens are favourite spots of mine to visit if and when I ever have any down time, a Sunday or, even better, Monday in between catch-ups, shoots and events. It's a place to escape, slow down and be transported – a world of culture, a touch of Paris and much inspiration.’ In shot: Christelle wears top and shoes by Jacquemus; and trousers by Nanushka.

Sarah Starkey, contributing fashion editor, Oyster magazine

‘I was born in Korea, and have lived in Sydney since I was adopted at the age of six months old. My photos were shot at Chinatown in Haymarket. It's my favourite place for hanging out, shopping and getting food with friends. I've found lots of amazing chintzy bits and pieces in the markets and stores there, too. I think Sydney’s a great city to live in; it allows you to have a really comfortable and healthy lifestyle. It’s also a rare place where you can live in a nice central area but the beaches are still very close by.’ In shot: Sarah wears jacket by Koché.
