The Grethen House customer is seeking alternatives to the impersonal service and ubiquitous merchandise of department stores, and appreciates the conscientious service and extra attention a small, family-owned boutique provides. Grethen House was established in Clear Lake, Iowa in 1953 by Greta and Henry Thomas—the name Grethen is a combination of their first names. Daughter Mary took over the store in 1989, and currently works with her son, Tadd, and his wife, Maggie.

    Designer Olivier Theyskens adds his elegant, fashion-forward touch to the contemporary women’s label Theory. Luxe fabrics from Italy and Japan take form in sharp angles, creative tailoring, and classic shapes, and prints found in the collection are often inspired by Theyskens’ own artwork.
