The term rugged-refined is oft used in fashion, but rarely is it as apt - and accurate - as in the case of Anndra Neen, the jewellery line designed by Mexico City-born, New York-based sisters Phoebe and Annette Stephens. Hailing from a long line of artists (their father is a painter and their grandmother was an artist/jeweller whose creations were worn by Frida Kahlo and Peggy Guggenheim), the sisters craft what they term "Mad Max-meets-ladies who lunch" pieces in unexpected shapes and materials that speak to their sophisticated background while purposefully showcasing the hand of the artisan.
