Bantu, meaning "gateway" in Senegal's native language, is a luxury swimwear label designed by, Yodit Eklund. The daughter of an American refugee co-ordinator who grew up shuttling between coastal towns along the Ivory Coast, Eklund was inspired to create something that would empower African women. Hence, Bantu was born and like the traditional Konjo batik, each Bantu bikini is designed by women from the Ivory Coast with the cutting and sewing done in the Cameroon and South Africa respectively, in turn putting money into the locals pockets. As Eklund sums up "Bantu is celebrating the beauty of Africa and what better way to do that then with exuberantly colourful bikinis."
