The house of Kenzo opened in 1970, in the Galerie Vivienne nearby the Palais Royale in Paris. The creator and fonder, Kenzo Takada, quickly became one of the main precursors of the seventies. He livened up the couture rules by charming with coloured, merry, spontaneous, poetic creations and by bringing a new freshness. Takada retired in 1999, and in 2003 Spanish designer Antonto Marras became artistic director of the women’s line. Since 2011 the design duo behind US label Opening Ceremony, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have injected the label with a new street-influenced energy.
