Amalgamating a background in computerised control engineering with fashion, Fukuoka born Ryuichi set up his Tokyo-based label Balmung at the age of 21. His various experiences as brand assistant, fashion buyer to the clothing store Candy, and his involvement in the Tokyo street scene provide the inspiration to his designs. Balmung’s clientele boasts that of Lady Gaga, the New York artist Terrence Koh and Tokyo street style icon Mademoiselle Yulia.
