Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester launched her first collection in 1987, followed by a shoe and accessories range in 1988. The collection then hit the Paris catwalk in 1992, with a blend of mannish pieces in a moody palette of brown, grey and black. Demeulemeester is the original modern rough-luxury designer with her rock aesthetic and experimental way with cut and shape, it’s little surprise that her perennial muse is cooler-than-thou Patti Smith.
